New head
Re: New head
Hi!
Finally it runs like a champ Running easy over 7000 rpm, ( then I become a chicken) lolol. I am running on 135 mains and 175 air. with Strada 130TC abarth emulsion tubes. My friend that made this head, has also offered me a complete 2 l block with high commpression pistons, light Abarth flywheel, new Techniclutch, oil-cooler ++ everything bluprinted. approx 170-180 ps But it cost some money Time will show. Maybe next autumm
Best regards

Re: New head
Congratulations, FMO! Good job!
It is sometimes frustrating to depart from the OEM setup, in a search for individuality and customization. We easily take for granted the hours and hours factory engineers and designers spend pouring over choices and prototypes to make the car look, feel and sound "right". To attempt this on our own without the tools and resources they have at their disposal is a daunting task!

Re: New head
Congrats on getting your car back on the road. Isn't it amazing how more fun these little cars are to drive when they have a little kick?
Bernie, I'll have to let you take mine for a spin when you come down for Dixie Fiatfest. I was showing 100 hp at the wheels with an irratic ignition and starving Holley carb. It'll be fun to compare.

Re: New head
You're on, kiddo. You take Gina for a spin, too. Those '82s won't know which end is up!
Mine's running pretty good right now; turns out I was going the wrong way on jets - needed a bigger idle, not smaller. Back to the dyno on Thursday for fine tuning and measurements, and I'm still troubleshooting the cruise control. Cutting it pretty close for Dixie, but many Fiatsi have been known to be finishing their cars enroute to a FFO

Re: New head
You are right Denise. It make so much more fun having more power in these Fiats. I really enjoy it now, and dont miss my old Porsche 914 anymore lol- Now I just w8 for the 2 l block +++ and it will hit 160-170HP

Re: New head
90 RWHP @5500 RPM 90 FtLb @ 4000 RPM. I was hoping for 100, but still; that's 110-120 SAE HP with a decent idle and a smooth rush from about 2800 revs to the redline. Still need bigger idle jets and "one" more trip to the dyno, but that can wait.baltobernie wrote: Back to the dyno on Thursday for fine tuning and measurements, and I'm still troubleshooting the cruise control. See you next week!

Bernie
What size engine is that ? and why the low RPM for HP rating is there a reason other then a new engine ??
You would have a higher out put at higher RPM Glad to hear your happy so far though good luck .

Re: New head
Daniel,
1.8 engine
90 HP @ 5500, 88-89 HP from there to 6500. Not uncommon, isn't it? HP often falls significantly at revs beyond peak power output in many street engines

Re: New head
WOW!
I got my car back with a brand new 2 l engine installed ))))))))))))))
I am surprise how amazing it goes. I dont know how much HP I have, but it must be a lot....I can run in 5th gear at 2000 rpm, hit the gas and it just gooooooes.
I have to take a dyno test, and post the results later .
Here are the specifications:
10:1+ pistons
130 TC head - 36 mm parallel intake - 34 mm exhaust + valve + guide + seat mods
44 IDF - 36 chokes, F16, 145 mains, 180 air
Inlet cam billet - 10.45 true lift, 280 degrees, 2.5 lift TDC - timed 110
Exhaust cam 1608 - (9.3 lift on lobes) - timed 110
Exhaust manifold 4-2 cast iron into 2-1 secondary pipes - (standard 1800 sport) - 2 " free flow system from manifold and back
Best regards

Re: New head
Hi Daniel!
yes I am planning to dyno it, but will like to clean the carbs and install external oil cooler, before I use 500$ on a dyno test,
I will post it as soon I got it
Regards

Re: New head
The numbers are in:
125 HP with a decent idle, good throttle response, a nice flat torque curve, etc. The last (and final!) tweak was adjustable timing gears from Jason Miller. Turns out I was only 1-2° out on one side, but 8-9° on the other. This was enough to wreck the low end and cost power 10% across the board. I guess my advice here is to plan on incorporating the time and expense of "dialing in" the cams when doing a performance rebuild.
Specs:
1792cc
10:1 Persan pistons from Vick, assembly balanced to 2g.
1800 head, stock valves, de-shrouding and smoothing per GC video
single-plane 1800 intake, port matched
one 38DGS, 65 idles, 150 mains, 200 airs, stock air cleaner, K&N element
IAP p/n 92400 cams, 40/80 - 80/40, 0.016", cams set to IAP specs using Millers Mule adjustable gears
single-point distributor, Pertronix module, centrifugal advance, recurved by Advanced Distributors, Bosch blue coil, Champion N6Y @ 0.024"
Ceramic-coated exhaust manifold 4-2 cast iron into 2-1 secondary pipes - (standard 1800) - custom 1.75" pipe back to rear-mount Flowmaster p/n 952060
ignition timing optimized on dyno; I don't have a front cover, but it looks like approximately 10° BTDC. I can put on a cover and use a dial-back light if anyone's interested
102 RWHP @ 5600 RPM, 104 FtLbs @ 4200 RPM
With more carburetor and exhaust, it is conceivable that this curve would keep climbing from 5200, resulting in approximately 110 RWHP (140 SAE net). Power beyond that would probably take a bigger cam and make for a more challenging daily drive.

Wow, that's awesome, Bernie! I have a set of adjustable cam pulleys I need to put on mine. You have some really impressive numbers. Don't forget, you offered me a test drive!

Re: New head
you would be shocked at the results that a good exhaust system will provide on top of what you've already done
