Re: ANSA Muffler
What other mods are you doing on your engine? Are you afraid of what 2.25" will do to scavenging?

Re: ANSA Muffler
I just want it to breath better, I'm adding ram air. What do you mean by scavenging?
Re: ANSA Muffler
yeah, it prolly would defeat the purpose of a larger pipe. we're still talking about a stock ANSA, right? all i was trying to say was... good luck finding an ANSA, then even better luck finding one that large to work on a SpiderRoadRacer wrote:Won't that defeat the purpose of a larger 2.25 pipe? The exhaust gasses will get bottle necked in the muffler entrance...
I may have to go with a different muffler.
Re: ANSA Muffler
I just came from Mieneke and they said they could do a 2.25 custom bent pipe from the Y pipe to the muffler (deleting cat and resonator) they will put a small turbo muffler with a single outlet for under 200.00. They put those small turbo mufflers on my Vette a few years back and they sounded pretty good. But then again it was a Vette with headers and 300hp.

Re: ANSA Muffler
Scavenging has to do with getting the exhaust gasses out of the engine. With a narrow exhaust pipe, you have gasses going faster, but they are more restricted. If you go with a too wide of pipe, you have the volume going through, but it will go slower, so the best scenerio is to find a pipe that doesn't restrict but will let the exhaust flow quickly. I always think of water and pipes. Too narrow of a pipe will cause the water to come out hard and fast, but not as much water as a big fat pipe...but the big fat pipe will just let the water flow because there is no pressure to push it. The reason I asked if you were doing any other mods is the original engine has a certain amount of air going into the head and pushes a certain amount out. With a head job, bigger carb and intake, etc. you need a bigger exhaust to get rid of the gasses. Does this make sense at all?

Re: ANSA Muffler
the muffler is made of t304 stainless steel, it has polished welds. inside it has ceramic fiber and t304 steel mesh internals. it comes with a 2 1/4 inlet or a 2 1/2 inlet. i think it looks great on the spider compared to all the other choices ive seen out there. its probably to big for a stock engine though.
Re: ANSA Muffler
i am fairly certain that Danny O'donnell also makes his stainless exhausts in +2" sizes. and i attest that his muffler sounds sweet.

Re: ANSA Muffler
I'm going with this http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/produ ... f6d901c624. The tech I spoke with at Flowmaster has one on his Honda, and he says this is the right muffler for a 100-120 hp 4-cylinder street car. I'll use the stock 4-2-1 and dual downtube, then shop-bent 1-3/4" to the rear of the car. This unit is an inch thicker than what's there now, but should clear OK.
Will let you know in January how it sounds and performs on a modified 1.8 Unfortunately, I won't be able to A/B with a stock system, due to the cost of dyno time.
I'm eager to get started on the powertrain rebuild, but still want to drive whenever the weather cooperates. Hmmm, maybe if I had another Spider ....
