Lowering springs and performance shocks
Re: Lowering springs and performance shocks
MARK,
Will the lowering springs work on my 1970 EuroSpider as I believe the car is already somewhat lower than the, imported, US version of the 1970 Spider?

Re: Lowering springs and performance shocks
Well Mark, people want to know if it will lower a 70' spider????
Re: Lowering springs and performance shocks
sure they will work on an early car. Ride height will be the same as the later cars with these springs

Thanx Mark. How much do you think it will lower an early car? Later cars start off much higher, so the drop on an earlier car will be less. just wondering how much? Since the rear is off the car right now, if these will make enough of a difference now would be the time for me anyways.

Re: Lowering springs and performance shocks
I guess the easiest way to tell would be to get a measurement from the guard to the centre of the wheel (I think this is called the eyebrow height??) of the silver car at the start of the thread. At least that way it negates height differences from wheel diameters. Is it possible to get that measurement mark? Of course we'd have to take into account the weight of the heavy bumpers
Re: Lowering springs and performance shocks
when that car comes back from the paint shop (sans bumpers), I'll measure the height along with the tire diameter. Should be back next week
Re: Lowering springs and performance shocks
I took some measurements after an installation today on a 78 Spider. This car has had the bumpers removed and also features staggered tire sizes from front to rear, with 205-60-15 in the rear and 195-60-15 in the front
The front tires are 23 3/4" tall and the measurement from ground to the bottom of the wheel opening is 25 1/8
The rear tires are 24" tall and the measurement from ground to the bottom of the wheel opening is 25 7/8"
If you measure the height of your tires you can easily figure out how high your car will sit with these springs

Those are larger in a diameter than the stock tires (are you sure you did not mean 205/50?), so the car will be sitting higher than one with stock diameter tires.

Re: Lowering springs and performance shocks
For a comparison:
I just installed these lowering springs on my 79 with bumpers, same wheels, and 205/50 R15 tires
Here are my numbers:
Front: Floor to apex of fender arch is = 24 1/2"
Top of tire to apex of fender arch is = 1 7/8"
Back: Floor to apex of fender arch is = 24 3/4'
Top of tire to apex of fender arch is = 2"
Oh... and it looks AWESOME!

Re: Lowering springs and performance shocks
Did anyone try those italian shocks? Are they any good? How they compare to konis (as they are WAY CHEAPER)?

I have them and I think they are good. Can't compare to Koni, because I have never had those...Abraham wrote:Did anyone try those italian shocks? Are they any good? How they compare to konis (as they are WAY CHEAPER)?

Mark do you have some more pictures (after lowering with your springs) in the meantime?
I bought a set of your Senna wheels and got the tires mounted today (195/50/15).
The Spider could need the front lowered around 2 - 2 1/2".
