Re: ok... call me a purist but this is a bit over the top
LOL! I was laughing so hard I was crying... then it was "come here honey... look at this" Whhhaaa! Then it was "oh... my... oh no... oh no, no...oh wow."
Poor guy. I just can't help it. Seems like his crativity got the better of him- and the car.

Mark once again I agree with you 100%
Automatic????????????
Its like having sex with 5 condoms on, yeah you are still driving but your not feeling anything.
Thats the most offensive part of this car, everything else can be fixed easily

ok... here's another beaut... not quite so out there but obviously not stock
Re: ok... call me a purist but this is a bit over the top
I don't understand what's going on here... aren't we supposed to be the best site for FIAT enthusiasts regardless of how offensive we go to making our cars unique to each owners tastes... now we are trashing them? Is that what this site is for?
Now anyone that owns an automatic Fiat is trashed, or one that customizes his interior or exterior trashed and talked about?
I may not post my new interior renovations to my red Fiat for fear of some who think only THEY know what's best.

I like the look of the orange car. As for the flamed ebay car, IMHO, that car is being trashed because of the 99cent store mods. As for the automatic trans, it's just not optimal for performance or sporty driving.

He says "if you have any questions just ask"
Ok, I'll ask:
"Why?"
Looks like the kind car/person you run into at a car show or driving and they want to cling onto you because "I own one of them too."
Makes me want to vomit. Someone buy it just to bring it back to the junkyard, or restore the poor thing.

Orangie
That orange thing is - I believe - one of the body kits Bayless sold for a few decades. Hideous, yes, and very 1970's.

To take a significant design from a famous, award winning, historical coach builder and put a bunch of cheap stuff on it to make it look like a honda is just as offensive to me. Don't you think that if a spoiler would have made the car faster they would have done it? I see more & more of these cars being destroyed of their original features. Yes it's your car, but don't expect people to be happy about throwing away something original on it as many of us know how expensive it is to put it back!

Nick, I'm hoping you will post your work. I think what got things going here is a matter of taste. It's a fact, some people have bad taste. Some people have such bad taste that it causes strong reactions. Your work has proven that you have what is, by concensus, good taste.
It would be nice to get it and return it to its former glory.

Customizing, personalization?
OK, well IMHO clearly everyone should do what ever they want to their car that makes them happy. But it is like painting your house purple, don't get your feelings hurt if you see people pointing and laughing as they drive by. I have also been a motorcycle enthusiast for many years and have made many of my Harley's my own with paint and various goodies many of which I made in my own shop and maybe many years from now somebody will look at the pictures and laugh and ask "What were you thinking"? However I had a great time doing it. Hopefully people will start with a wreck before they make those "Subtle" changes or at least give us all a crack at buying the parts they removed before they put them out by the curb. I myself have been giving serious thoughts to removing the bumpers of my 82. If your interior is damaged or your wheel wells are rusted and covering them with animal skins makes you happy then go for it. But if you have a nice clean car and you wreck it that way, we will hunt your car down and rescue it in the dark of the night and leave you with the rusty basket case you deserve. I saw a Fiat on Ebay about a year ago with Alligator seats, anybody here buy that one?
Re: ok... call me a purist but this is a bit over the top
sorry if my post offended anyone. I was just apalled by the "tackyness" of the flames and stickons. Far be it from me to have a complete stock look (just check my paint job out) but there are limits to how much my eyes can stand before they bleed.
anyway, the orange one with the body kit is selling for $9000 it's been listed for a month now and I think I've seen it listed late last year as well.
I'm sure someone will scoop it (no pun intended) soon as the weather starts to improve.
on the other side, I stopped by a shop last week to take a look at a 74 mgb... of course it was green and spiffed out as if it had been on a trailer for it's whole life. I asked the guy where he rescued it from and he got offended at my use of the word rescue. According to him, british cars are a passion and my lowly fiat was an abomination. Now that's what I call over the top purist.

Well it is much easier to love an MG if you act like a Fiat Spider doesn't exist..........

He should feel bad. The 50's MG owners think the 60's cars are not real MGs, the 60's think the 70's are not real MG's, the 70's think the 80's...etc...etc. They snob even their own brothers and sisters.

I forgot to mention, he wanted $9000 for his "british passion" and when I told him someone had already offered me $10,000 for my spider he made some comment about "well it is a newer vehicle" lol...
something tells me that if I pulled out my chequebook and wrote him a cheque, he wouldn't have let me take it anyway.
