Ok, this is going to sound real stupid...but I am not afraid of stupid so here goes....

I use an ipad to do most of my posts, I just got the photobucket account fixed so that future posts will size properly. I have heard of right clicking on the picture to see the full view...is there a trick for doing this with the ipad?

Thanks!!

Ok so now for the doors. First I cannot stress how good of shape the body of this car appeared prior to being stripped. The doors, hood and trunk fit great. I have heard of people having problems with door hinges but I had never seen what the damage could look like....until now.

The hinge itself is strong, the attachment point in the door is NOT! This is where I am glad I went with a talented paint and body guy I would not have thought to separate the hinge from the door, nor would I have been able to fix the damage he found. PLEASE go look at your cars and see if these cracks are there, mine functioned perfectly and probably would have until they had a catastrophic failure.

Note how nice the door lines up,,,,this was prior to finding damage
Image

This is the sheet metal sandwiched between the hinge and backing plate......notice how thin it is an how the outline of the hinge covers most of the damage from casual view!

The plate on the right is the backer plate.....

Now for the fix
Image
Plate was cut and placed behind damaged one, then plugs were inserted and the assembly was welded and re drilled, the backer plate also had its threads freshened up with a tap.

Hopefully they will last another 35 years!

Pat,
I post everything from my ipad as well. Not too long ago I found a great free app called image size.
I now post all my photos to photobucket after running them through image size. I have found that 750 is the max width. You can crop, rotate etc within the app and then save to your camera roll. One thing I did learn was it makes sense to delete the resized photos from your camera roll after you upload to photobucket.

Nice to see the car coming along so well!!

Only a little bit of noticeable work on the car this week, a heavy coat of primer was added, then the car was blocked and sanded. This has been done twice. We had a great 90 degree day Wednesday so the car was put outside to cure and off gas. We will be starting on building the custom center console next week I have big plans for it and can't wait to start!!

I would love to take the credit here....BUT, I only came up with the ideas, the expertise is in the form of an award winning body guy named Scott. This guy is an over the top perfectionist that make it look simple. But I do agree with you in that there is a huge amount of talent on this forum!!

More to come!

Ok, so the car is in the body shop so now it is time to work on all the cool a stuff that is going to go back in when I am done.......besides I miss the car. I bought this cool alluminum windshield washer tank, it came unpolished but I have got a decent sheen on it now. I am doing the same with the overflow tank.

I got it from Car Builder Solutions in London, they have one of the coolest car parts catalog I have ever seen. It was about $100 US, but watch out for shipping and customs fees, apparently if you order more than 200 dollars worth of stuff you get slammed by US Custom duty fees!

I bought a bunch of stuff from them!

Ok so the blocking is well on its way and the real customization will start soon. Here are a couple of test fits if the parts, to include the old fashioned bumpers, oval Lokar tail lights and hagan LED flush mounted side lights.

We are planning on some modifications to the hood, engine bay and interior, just waiting a a few more parts.....some overtime hours would not hurt either to help pay for parts!

chip foose does that on his builds.... pulls the bumpers in nice and tight... gives it a hand made look instead of an assembly line....

looking good!!!!

Ok, things have been going a little slower we are in a heat wave.....90’s, which for Western Washington is very unpleasant.....unless you ask my wife, she loves it! I have been sorting thru a lot of my parts, I need to get all the stainless trim polished and I have been ordering up some of the rubber pieces. I have very nice pads and liners for a double bumper system if anyone is interested. I have a large box of other parts which I will be listing for sale shortly including some new stuff that got super ceded as the build progressed.

Here is the new radiator overflow tank, I had to buff it to get it to shine. It is bigger than the plastic bottle so we will make a new bracket for it.

I still have to put the final shine on the tank.
