Can we talk 124 Coupe?
Re: Can we talk 124 Coupe?
I had copies of the magazines with the articles about the car and included all of that in the original sale. Unfortunately they all disappeared with the original buyer/scammer

Here are the pictures a nice guy from down under sent me, which were the basis for bending up mine. I will try to measure the diameter tonight, but I'm pretty sure it was 5 mm (which would match one filename!):

Re: Can we talk 124 Coupe?
Hood prop rod fabrication complete.
Had concerns as I had to join two pieces of rod to make one long enough to have the 80" needed for the final part.
I was able to bevel the ends of two 72" rods and join them with a wire feed welder. Almost looks original.
Thanks again Red!

Re: Can we talk 124 Coupe?
Thanks Red,
My next issue to tackle is safety related. The brakes are only working at less than 50%.
I guessed by the feel and the way the rears would lock that the fronts were frozen.
Yesterday I started looking into things.
The brake reservoir for the fronts was DRY! And this was after I had topped it off once I got it home.
I then went thru the process of inspecting the front brake system and all seems to be in good order.
And "someone" seems to have installed steel braided lines to the calipers. When I saw this on the fronts I went and stuck my head up under the rear of the car and they are all braided steel sheathed with a coat of teflon or something over the braid.
So I then used my mighty vac and went thru the one man bleeding process.
End result, front brakes are now fully functional. I will be keeping my eye on them for leaks and such. But I think that someone, somewhere changed out the lines and just never got to the bleeding process.
Next up, inoperative turn signals. All other lights work fine. Even the hazard flashers work, save for the right front lamp not flashing. But I think I can fix this issue with a proper cleanup of some questionably spliced wires up near the battery and by cleaning my ground connections.

I wonder if the front circuit is leaking into the booster...

Re: Can we talk 124 Coupe?
Nice job on the hood brace. Recommend you neatly cut a few inches of fuel line and slip it over the two ends of the brace where it makes contact with the inside of the fender well to eliminate the metal to metal contact. Also, don't throw that hood liner away - use it as pattern to have another one made. I've tried a lot of alternatives over the years, and that factory liner was the best.

Hey sptcoupe,
Thanks, but I'm on it. I installed some nylon lined Adel clamps to secure the ends that we're in contact with the fenders.
Good advice on the liner.
And Hi Csaba,
Yes that possibility is something I'll be watching for, but hoping against.

Re: Can we talk 124 Coupe?
Anyone know where I can find the turn signal flasher in this coupe?!?!!!?!?!?
Edit:
Nevermind, I found it. In this 71 Coupe it's just behind the speedometer.
I found it's location because of the dangling wires that SHOULD be connected to a turn signal flasher relay!

Re: Can we talk 124 Coupe?
Got a new flasher from Csaba and Ramzi, Front and rear turn signals are working great now. Had to add a ground jumper between the turn lamps on the right rear to get the outer rear signal to flash.
I noticed that the right front fender marker lamp flashes with the signal but none of the other side markers do the same.
Connection issue?
No sign of leakage from the front brake system as of yet.
Going to start cutting out rust from those areas I can patch with formed flat stock and weld the patches into place.
This will keep me busy as I save money for new tires and all the rubber bits for the engine compartment. You know, belts hoses and such.
The more I look at this car the more I love it.
This will be my "fair weather" twin cam release for when I have the Spider wrapped up to keep her dry.
Anyone have a spare lens that fits on the rear bumper for the license plate illumination?

Re: Can we talk 124 Coupe?
Sounds like the front right turn signal has a bad ground.

Re: Can we talk 124 Coupe?
Are you saying that the right front fender marker light should or should not blink with the turn signal?
Re: Can we talk 124 Coupe?
no, the marker shouldn't flash. Typically a bad ground on the turn signal circuit will force the current through the park light circuit

Re: Can we talk 124 Coupe?
But, I like for it to flash.
So if I cause all the grounds at the signals to be crappy, all the side markers will flash?
