That's what I thought, but not sure where to drill. I was hoping someone knew if there was access behind the back seat. I realize that the battery takes up the center of that wall, but If I could shine a light in, and possibly reach the remaining piece of wire...
You have to cut a hole through two steel panels in order to do that.

I agree with DieselSpider,...that would not be the way to access the trunk latch. The small hole behind the license plate is easily located, easily drilled, and releasing the latch is pure simplicity after that,...you will be within an inch of it. And the rear panel is thin,...
Either a removable plug, or a tiny bit of bodywork, will finish the hole out nicely.
