I decided not to go with any additional padding. When using foam padding or jute backing, unwanted moisture can easily be the cause of early deterioration in the floor of the vehicle.

How does the noise and heat level seem with no secondary padding?

Huge difference with the heat (& smell with the shifter boot installed). I find it funny about noise levels in convertibles. Wife said she noticed a difference in sound level.

So the EZ Cool alone made a big difference? What was under your carpet before?

The noise level is a funny one. The low frequencies ("rumbles") are the ones that come through from below and are very fatiguing.

What do you guys think of this stuff? (Intended use as a carpet pad, on top of EZ-Cool, below carpet)

Jay:

So you had basically no padding under the existing carpet, just the factory applied hard stuff? I would expect that yes the EZ-Cool would make a huge difference without a secondary under carpet pad!

i have a roll of 1/2in pad like jute,i used under my carpet.i had a gas leak inside and the tar blead thru the carpet,so last
year i did it up right,i used a rust inhibitor and painted the rust spots, this year ill do the whole floor with por15
the guy who painted my car said you dont want a moisture bearior
and dont seal up the drain holes

i also try to keep it out of the rain,as the tops leak even when new

Why would he say you don't want a moisture barrier? That is the whole idea.

so it can dry out after getting wet
with a barrior it traps moisture and causes rust
unless its adhered directly to the floor"like the tar we start with

If you have a barrier directly on the floor and you put jute or open cell foam or something similar under the carpet and you get a flood, it isn't going to dry out in any reasonable amount of time. The jute just holds it like a sponge. The carpet becomes a barrier to evaporation.

EZ-Cool went in today: "Easy" is correct, but quite tedious. Took the whole day to do it right. I used the Loctite 300 spray, which is excellent! I ran out (you will need 2 cans), went back to the store, they were out of the 300 so I got the 200 (medium duty), and it was terrible, made way too much mist, didn't hold nearly as well. The 300 has good initial grab and holds like nuclear war. The 300 sprays like a fibreglass chopper gun, excellent.

Front seats were ready and I picked them up this morning. The workmanship is fantastic. Mark's Auto Upholstery of Foxboro did them. Dimitri over there is THE MAN. (508) 543-3407, 230 Main Street, Foxboro, MA 02035

Now just waiting for carpets and inner boot seal and wil get this thing finished and ready to drive again.

Thanks! Oh and I still have to patch and paint the center console... Wishful thinking that I was near the end on this. Anyone have a recommendation on what to use that is both sandable and flexible to patch goughes, tears, holes etc. in the vinyl center console? Seems like bondo might be prone to cracking, but finding a material that is both flexible and sandable seems at at odds.
