mine was on from the po. I believe they are standard from the factory/dealer. It was riveted, so i simply cut them off and screwed to the new board.

You know, if somebody came up with decent quality board/carpet/side panel replacements, they could probably sell them as sets through the usual vendors. Hint hint! 8)

not me I'm out on designing anything new for a while. All funds are being put towards the Ghia restoration.

Oh, I'm just going to vacuum form that one plastic piece so I can bolt it onto whatever I make. It wouldn't be hard for me to design a replacement. If I had an original. I have access to CNC machines etc... but I don't know that it would be worth while.

I also used my carpet as a template and cut mine using a jig saw. A little trimming to get to fit and to make sure I could get in and out when needed. I used a thin plywood vaneer that cost me 14$ at Lowes. As above I drilled out the rivets on the plastic hump for the fuel tank hoses and then reattached it with small nuts and bolts. I also reattached the original brace. It fits flat and feels solid.

My '80' had the remains of the boards but they were getting tired and a bit fretted around the edges. They appeared to be a fibre-board so I used a sheet of Masonite packing from a freight pallet. They put it on the pallet before packing on bags of stock feed. It stops the bags sagging between or snagging on the pallet boards. And it cost me nothing!

I glued a few wood fillets to the underside to stiffen it up and re-used the hardware (where the 2 sheets join)which I riveted onto the new sheets with soft alloy rivets and hammered them on a vice as an anvil.
I think / presume the section over the tank should be screwed into place ? And don't forget the sponge rubber padding above the spare wheel.

I have what looks like original trunk carpeting but no sign of any solid sides. Would like to see pics of same.

Mine looks like this. I also have a long thin piece with a rectangle cut in it which I think goes up against the lock wall.

Hi Jimmycakes, is that a dome or snap fixing at the top of the pic ? on what I assume is the jack and toolkit access sidepanel ? I assume it has a mating piece scewed to the body / trunk side panel ?

That fits over one of those twisty studs to keep the side up. That's correct, you'd undo the twisty thing to access the jack.

Just thought I would mention that my original carpet looked pretty bad even though it was still in one piece, lots of stains from battery acid and such. I was very surprised how well it cleaned up with soap and water. I clamped it to a fence and sprayed with a hose nozzle and most of the dirt and stains washed right out leaving it soft and pliable again so I am reusing it instead of replacing it.

On this subject, the battery is supposed to sit in a rubber/synthetic tray that drains to underneath the car thru tubes that hang down next to the axle. That way any leakage is dispatched to the ground and not onto the body. There should be a set of clamps holding the battery insitu INSIDE the battery cover.
