Haha double filtered, awesome... should I remove one of those? Seems difficult but maybe necessary?

Hmm... I'll need to find a picture that helps me lay out where all those tubes go. I'll be installing a new intake manifold in about a week, but I may hook these up still.

Also getting a new carb, should I look in to getting studs? These bolts are kinda annoying to remove.

Wheelan, I think my son and I saw you this weekend in your red 79. Very Nice car! A new carb tuned well will help performance. What did you say you set the ide too. just under 1000. does it idle steady in that 700 - 900 range after warm up? The brake booster will hiss/suck if a leak. Does not sound like you have that issue from what you described. The carbs take some time to get dialed in and I'm not really that great at carb tuning. However, the carb in your picture looks to be in pretty good shape/clean. The carb should have a nice sucking noise that you hear when you give it some gas. I would be Careful replacing parts to replace parts unless you are upgrading for performance or fixing a problem. Performance upgrades are great but how hard do you want to push the car needs to be asked.

I think you said you are two weeks into this car. give it a little time. I saw in another post where the prior owner used a screw to duplicate the male end of your radio antenna wire. This is an indication of a poor fix by a prior owner. What other items were fixed in a quick fix manner. I would suggest continuing to sort out all the systems in the car. The car looks and sounds great from the brief minute I followed you down the street and our conversation. Things have a way of coming to the surface over time in a 33 year old FIAT. Give some consideration to saving time and resources to address any needs before wants.

ya that was me, the engine runs well. I've done some of the maintenance stuff to it. The intake/carb swap is for performance. That's the only change that I've been really wanting to make on the car. Not planning on going crazy. But ya, there's a couple things that need fixing.

Thanks Joe, I'll give that a shot.

The current carb on the car is a Weber 32/36 DFEV, which is already a performance boost over the stock 1979 carb. The only other performance boost you could install would be a Weber 34ADF. Anything after that such as a 36/36, or a 36ADL or dual carbs would necessitate higher compression and cams.

You are good with what carb you got, but if you replace the hold down bolts with studs and add a spacer you will add a bit of torque cheaply.

Wait.... so my carb has 26 and 27 stamped on the side... does that number actually mean something else? I wouldn't be sad if I was wrong, so please tell me if so, just baffled.

Those numbers indicate the main venturi diameter of each of the two barrels. The main venturi is sometimes called a choke as its the narrowest point of the carb barrel.

D'oh... I see. Well then, aside from getting hoses reconnected, is a single plane intake a good move? (I'm assuming it's always a good move.) I already ordered it, so I can just stick it on.

I experienced this same issue and am still working through it. I'm trying to figure out if it is a carburetor issue or an ignition issue.

I took the ignition coil assembly apart last week and found corrosion on all the electrical connections. I cleaned everything up and put it together. I also found that the pickup lead connectors were not tight so i squeezed them so they fit better. I sanded down all the ground connections nearby too. After driving 30 minutes to work, it seems to be behaving. No drops in RPM when coming to a stop or coasting. I'll report back in a week with further results, but i think this may have been the problem.

Stay tuned.
