Interior
anyway, back on topic! here are a couple of pictures I took of the interior before pulling out the rest of the insulation and taking the back of the seat out. It's kinda dirty, but you can pretty much tell that the teensy bit of rust is under that back seat from the water that came in my missing window.
Be patient
Don’t discard the old insulation if you haven’t already. You will need a template for cutting out the new padding. Also, a good sound/heat barrier like Dynomat incorporates different material to achieve the desired reduction. If you purchase just matting it will reduce heat and some noise but won’t be as effective as original.
I saved the old insulation sets and reused the black solid top barrier. I simply tore off the old matting, used the barrier as a template and cut out new LyTherm Max matting, sprayed adhesive on the barrier and matting and stuck them together.
This ensures all interior carpet and center console fit properly as well as keep the same sound but better heat reduction. I have pics if anyone would like to see the comparison and end results.[img][/img][img][/img]

Re: Interior Carpet
Just ordered 2 yards as well. Got a couple of sample cards for vinyl and also ordered plastic for the window (as a temp solution until I can afford a new top) entered "s10forum" into the coupon code spot and saved myself 10%! thanks for the link!CarlaRWG wrote:I then ordered from (http://www.yourautotrim.com) "Thermozite Heat Shield Carpet Padding" $12.95 yard (I ordered 2 yards). This stuff is thick and insulated and cheaper than other products I've found.
here's the most recent set of pics showing the floor after removal of all the insulation fuzz and wire brushing the rust. Pics of the rust converter applied and a good floor cleaning will be coming after I fix my fuel leak.
and also, did anyone else have a big piece of styrofoam right here on the passenger side?

but isn't the cat under that hump? there is a large hole through the firewall behind that styrofoam, you can see it in one or two of the other pictures. Maybe it has something to do with that. It's just that this piece is so perfectly fitted and doesn't look hand made, that's why I wondered. So Cal Mark wrote:I've never seen one with styrofoam under the carpet. I'm thinking the PO put it there due to the heat from the catalytic converter
ok, check this out. very pleased. Don't worry I saw the missed spot on the cat hump and went back to fix it. Only took one can of 3M rubberized undercoating spray or whatever it's called. I plan to use another can on the other side then one more can for a light 2nd layer all over. at $5something per can I figure it's a small price to ensure rust doesn't ever over-run this floor!
most spiders have the foam.. it is to provide a softer area for the feet AND to cut down heat from the exhaust.. it does come pretty close to the firewall there.
Personally, I would never use the spray on undercoating. You get a chip, crack, or any moisture under it. and you are looking at wide spread rust all over your floor and you will never know.

well, how often do you pull up your carpet to check for rust? i cleaned this as well as I could, took care of any rust that I could see (and even places that I didn't see rust, but looked like a potential problem spot: I put some converter down) and when it was all recleaned and vacuumed and wiped down and dried for a day or so THEN I sprayed this on. I'm confident that it's sealed to NEW water now, that's a bigger concern to me. leaks happen; and now I think it's protected. I mean I coulda painted with regular paint (i didn't wanna leave bare metal anywhere), but then you'd be telling me the same thing "you could be painting moisture into there and it could rust." I'd see it sooner then, but whatever.... Another benefit is the sound deadening capabilities. Nothing spectacular, but something that will help a little bit.Mad-Machine wrote:most spiders have the foam.. it is to provide a softer area for the feet AND to cut down heat from the exhaust.. it does come pretty close to the firewall there.
