brady,

i have a red top optima i love ! Bought at auto zone. Matter fact last week. I worked over till 4 am than had to get up 7:30 to take my daughter to school got back about 8:00. Left my radiator fan running.didnt even think about going back out till time to go to work at 2:00. The car was wasnt easy to start but it did and has not had a issue yet. And this battery was in my truck for 4 years before i put it in the spider. I do use a good battery tender in the winter.

I buy Walmart batteries for all my cars. I've found them inexpensive and good. Plus if one fails within the warranty period you just take it to the returns desk and get a new one. No proration. No hassles.

The later is why I have found myself more and more (to my surprise!) becoming a "Walmart Shopper." Anything fails you get it replaced without grief.

I've had several interchanges with very pricey sources that were not like that. "You are a couple of weeks past the warranty period." A "they never say that to me a Walmart" response usually solves the problem, but why have the issue in the first place?

You might wanna check, I don't think you can put a plain battery tender on the Optima. I think it needs a 10V or something like that. I read it somewhere but can't remember what it said.

I like the Miata batteries. they don't leak, are light weight and powerful for their size.

What would be the ideal size of the battery. I mean the book says:

With grounded negative, capacity at 20-hr discharge rate ... 60 amp. hr.
Cold (-18*C) high discharge
test current .........255AMP

So what is the ideal CCA- cold cranking amps for a Fiat battery.
