Let us go amongest them!
Re: Let us go amongest them!
Whether true or just in my mind, I am convinced that the whistle from the roof rack on my Subaru repels deer. I have seen dozens from the side of the road just watching me drive by. Touch wood, none of them have ventured in front of us. This even held true to the moose along the highway through New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

A moose vs. Fiat get together is a ugly, ugly image They sell deer whistles, which look like mini funnels at Walmart and Autozone.People who have them swear that they work.I guess the only way to know for sure.......... They stand and watch me pass almost every morning and evening. Some of them stand in the middle of the road and wont move until you beep the horn.True hazards in this area.

In the Vanagon Westfalia forum I frequent, there was a recent story of a deer-Vanagon encounter. Deer jumped right into the front of the van and did significant damage. Ironically, also destroyed in the crash......the two deer whistles installed on the bumper.

I had a 88 Cougar that nailed 2 deer; 6 months apart. The front plastic valance was cracked, grill destroyed and hood wrinkled but it still ran fine.
As for skunks; many years ago, I hit one with a Ford Falcon. Didn't get sprayed but the next morning, on the school bus, one of my friends complained about this skunk that crawled up on the porch and died . . . . .
