I'm, even more concerned about the 40's? Are they gonna be big enough?
I would run 34 mm chokes on the 40s should be a real well balanced setup then !

fiatfactory wrote: The OEM 40IDF manifold CAN be made to work with 44's, but to do it PROPERLY requires more work. The manifold needs to be welded on the outside of the first bend SSR so that enough material exists to port the inside well and achieve a good short side radius on the first bend to suit the 44's port size, after so much welding both of the manifolds faces would also need to be machined to make sure they are straight and true... not difficult if you can TIG weld and have the machinery, but another expense if you don't. Buying a real CSA manifold is another option, but the last one of those that sold on ebay went for about 1000euros!! so is definitely outside the scope of a "buget" build.

Getting 44's of the correct type is also a challenge... most of the 44's on sale currently are more to cater for the VW4 crowd, and again without further machining and expense, won't fit on top of the OEM IDF manifold... but 44's would definitely suit the 2litre far better than 40's. The correct type would be 44IDF21/200 and 44IDF22/200 as per the 124CSA.

yes the Aux venturis on the 40IDF's can be modified... or you can buy kits to change the aux venturi to another "style" of diffuser, again the VW crowd do this all the time so search around on the net and you'll see what I mean. I've modified the stock aux venturi and fitted 34 chokes which is a definite improvement when fitting 40's onto an 1800...I've never used the alternate style of diffuser myself... and I'd rather go to 44's on a 2litre.

This is the Manifold and this is the intake containing the twin weber 44IDF's. I am running it on my 1800 right now.
But I have a 2.0 in the corner waiting for this combo when i pull the 1800 and swap it around. My 1800 head is from a 74-75 Brava I believe. I don't quite remember unless i look it up again. When the 2.0 goes in. It will go in with the 131 Brava tranny as well. (ask me if i care about the new shifter location over performance)

Nice blanking plates instead of chokes. I may be the only person that has the chokes hooked up on my IDFs.

just curious how much hp and torq and for approx how much $$$.

i was thinking of just putting in a newer motor, trans, and diff --wanted abut 250 hp -- and do the whole thing for under $3000

i don't think it's possible

wanted abut 250 hp
Impossible to achieve without a Turbo or Supercharger, 3k to rebuild a engine would be very
close to what you would spend doing it right pretty much yourself . Cost of Machine Work and
Parts might fit that estimate .

That's not the OEM Fiat manifold... so we are talking about different things... that could be the PBS
manifold by the look of it.

yes this is a PBS Manifold

Going for a bigger choke size than the original 32mm in a 40IDF won't achieve more flow unless the restriction at the primary diffuser is addressed,
how did you come to this conclusion ? cause i haven't had the same results just wondering .

I see where you're coming from Steve. The diffuser for the 40's are already restricting the size you can go with the chokes because of the fixed circumference of the body. The 44 diffuser is the least restrictive. So, you say CB makes a diffuser similar for the 40 IDFs?

Give it hell, Maytag! As I read that, I pictured an F250 wide open on I-84 with tumbleweeds stuck in its grill and truck stop beef jerky stuck in your teeth!

I drove through my home state of Utah last month on a family pilgrimage to bury my 97 year old grandma, and I'd forgotten how amazing the mountains there are. WOW! While Carbon County was no vacation destination, the Salt Lake/Ogden valleys are quite something.

Anyway, I'm watching this thread intently and I'm hoping you'll be posting pictures of the tear-down, modifications, and cosmetic improvements you make. I'm at that irritating transition stage between just graduated from the U of O, and having yet to get a "real" post-graduate job, (I'M BROKE!) but this thread will still be there when I'm ready.

God speed, Maytag!
