Its confusing at best, but your timing is probably off 180 degrees.

Sorry for the lack of update, it's been a busy week!

As some of you know Washington just a few inches of rain early in the week and experienced quite a bit of flooding. I called up an old family friend who is retired now and asked him for a bit of help. He said if I filled sand bags for his house, he'd fix my car. He was done in 30 minutes, I had to go back the next day to finish. Still, it was a good deal!

He says the timing was off 180 degrees, I'm not quite sure how I managed to do that, but that sure isn't smart.:( So it's up and running now, it looks like there's an oil leak in the distributor somewhere and I'm hearing a really really odd sound while I'm driving, but I'll start a new thread regarding that.

As for the oil leak, I think it's one of the distributor seals, and it is dripping on the number 4 tube for the exhaust, which kind of scares me. I'm debating right now whether to just replace it with a new distributor or try and take the distributor apart and replace the seal. I called around to a few mechanics and was quoted $150-300 for fixing the current distributor, while a remanufactured distrbutor would run me $80-120.

It seems to me the amount of time I'd put in to fix it would justify just buying a brand new one, but regardless, this appears to be my highest priority fix!

Thanks for all the help gentlemen, I'll be kicking myself on having the timing off for quite a while

when I installed that header, I also installed a heat shield, not only due to heat but to pass the Calif smog test it needed the hot air hose to the air cleaner. That heat shield protects the distributor from excess heat. From the looks of the #4 tube, I'd say the heat has caused the dist seal to fail. Before you replace the dist, I'd suggest reinstalling the heat shield or making a new one. I'd also suggest insulating the reservoir and definitely check the fuel mixture and total timing advance. If the exhaust temps continue to run that hot, the header will crack. The coating is good to 1100F, so you can see why the reservoir and dist would have trouble
