Jeff, good to hear. I still have not done this. I will give it a try tomorrow morning and report back with photos.pooldoctorstl wrote:Going back to a subject about 4 pages ago in this thread, did you ever get the LR bumper shock bolt out? I did mine today on my 82 by draining the tank but having done it, I think I could have done it by jacking up the tank. I say this because I loosened the clamp and drained the tank, but when I lifted and moved the tank, the filler hose never came completely off the tank neck. So I think it would have worked with a jack under the tank.

Re: My Second Fiat - The Runner
Well... did not touch the tank today. Instead I spent the time cleaning under the wiper area, cleaning up the wiring, tie wrap here, plug there... replaced the motor/pump on the windshield water tank since the one there was not working... now the motor works but it leaks (used one from the parts car) ...
I tried using the wiper motor and adapt the wiring to the the new wiring with no luck, it kept blowing the fuse as I turned it off... rather than wasting a lot of time I just replaced it with the one from the parts car, since it was a straight fit and the wiring was the one for it... sure enough, everything mapped correctly. Only problem was that of a misaligned rod that ended on a broke wiper blade as it went lower as soon as I turned it on. Some work on the rod position, some install fluid, more install fluid and everything worked as it was supposed to... will be buying a new wiper blade tomorrow.
Cleaned and painted with POR15 the area under the wiper mechanism. Drove the car around the block... just had to . Parked it in the garage and on to spend time with the family in the afternoon.
Next is to finish the rear portion of the wiring... different plugs to the rear section, so I need to decide if I just replace that portion as well or map the one in place using the connector from the newer harness. If I keep what is there I will need to run additional wires for the electrical trunk latch opener and trunk light that I have from the '83.
EDIT: newer photos... wiring routed correctly now:
Pump from the '83 works, but leaks...
Ohh... did I mention the "ooopppss I did it again... "? I forgot the frigging Electronic Ignition Pickup wire and got it burned/melted again by the header... still works, but I need to change it. Good thing it was the old one from the '83. In goes the new one I had as spare (but I hate to piss away US$30.00 like that ).
Buona notte!

Re: My Second Fiat - The Runner
I am replacing the overflow tank for one of Mark's unit... got tired of seeing how soft the original tank gets with the heat on that side.. order placed.
Photo from Bob's car ...
Might also do the air filter since the same happens to the bottom portion of the stock air filter housing. Previous owner had placed some heat shield cloth in there but still the bottom portion deformed. I am not about to install a pristine unit I have to let it suffer the same faith...
Another shameless steal of a photo from Bob's car

Hey Jaime,
Your going to need a stainless cover to match the overflow bottle. LOL

Re: My Second Fiat - The Runner
Removed the side mirror. Looking for a old style unit that would fit in the original holes... would hate to have to drill additional holes at this time. Measures 60mm from center to center.
Has anyone installed these side mirrors? Adjustable mounting holes. Waiting on the vendor to have them available for sale (missed it by a few weeks...). But would like to see if anyone here got them installed and could share their feedback on it.

Also, since I am using a door mounted rear view mirror and not the one that came from the '83, I will need to glue the locks back in place (after cleaning that glass, of course yikes! )
Recommendations on what glue will hold?? That is got to be one heck of an adhesive to take all the pressure

Re: My Second Fiat - The Runner
My children wanted me to take them to Barnes & Noble so I had to sneak quickly to get something done before leaving...
Fastest thing I could do was to pull out the interior.
Just one thing I did not like finding... That is the fuel line. Why not use an aluminum or stainless steel line like most car companies?? Nooooo... let's make it steel and coat it with something that will eventually allow corrosion? Anyhow... what have you guys have done? Replace it with some copper tubing? A new factory line? Rubber hose?
It is not leaking, but since I am here and will be doing the floor and carpet, it is the right time to fix it correctly...
Well... Dad! Time to gooooooooooo!
(and of course, I am doing the update from B&N )

Jaime,
How about rear view mirror adhesive for the window locks? I just did the mirror on my daughters Explorer and just out of curiosity gave the mirror a good pull to make sure it wasn't going to come back off, and it held great. I don't remember the brand but it was in a blue package. (narrows it down huh?) Any way, keep up the good work.

Re: My Second Fiat - The Runner
Jamie,
The quarter window locks can be a challenge. Rearview mirrow adhesive will work, but often doesn't last too long if you have quarter window seals that require constant pressure to keep the window closed. You can use sand paper on the seals to make the windows fit better (you pretty much have to do this if you put new seals on - learned this on mine after popping off a re-glued lock). Lots of folks have used JB Weld to affix the lock - instead of the adhesive giving out though, some folks have had a portion of the glass come off. You will see a bunch of Spiders with no quarter window locks at all because they can be so difficult to keep on.
Keep up the good work!
Kevin

I will go with the rear view mirror adhesive first and see how that works out. Thank you!
Also, on another note, got a sample of the dash finish from Denise. I think it would go great with a black dash setup.
As to the side mirror, I ordered one like this... let's see what it looks like once it gets here:
Exterior wing mirror: die-cast chrome arm/bright stainless steel head; including mounting gasket and fixing bolt. This beautifully crafted "Ital" style or Italian style mirror has a 115mm round head with convex mirror, 90mm x 30mm base incl. Gasket and is fixed by a single 6mm bolt and a 5mm location pin, 28mm apart. Not Handed.

Re: My Second Fiat - The Runner
Jaime,
I had the same problem with the vent windows. The PO replaced the window seals and neither of them would fully close because the rubber seal was just a little bit bigger than the original. I also looked into the original locks but after hearing all of the stories about them popping off or chipping the window I decided to go with these...
Not really convenient if you open the vent windows allot (which I don't) but they keep the window nice and tight. You can find them through some of our vendors on the site but they seem to always be sold out. I got these off of Ebay for about $5 plus shipping. They're actually marketed for the vent windows on a old school VW Bug.
