Re: Off to paint

Post by Ptoneill »

I have been tinkering with the car putting on odds and ends, I need to save up some more money for the upholstry. I did get the paddle shifter in today, it is very cool!! I wrapped it in 3m wrap and put it on the steering column to see how it will look, I am happy with it.

On another topic how do I change the "title" of this topic? off to paint no longer applies.

Hi all......sorry I have not posted in a while, really didn't have much to show. I have done a bunch of little things, all the bolt on trim is installed, I put shrink wrap on a lot of the engine compartment wiring to clean it up. allegedly my engine head will be done next week and I will put the engine and transmission back in.

Image

I had my intake coatrd in the ceramic "Chromex" so that it would match the exhaust, it cost $80, I sanded it down a little prior to coating.

Image

Here is the bottom...this is an 1800 manifold ...does anyone have that small plug that goes in the bottom? I can't find anything locally.

Image

I drilled into the replica dash today, not hard but very nerve wracking!! The small hole next to the 3 gauges is for the push button start.

Image

I am still looking for someone who can cover the top of the dash with leather and who can make custom door cards, any leads would be appreciated!!

Take care to all, hope you all have Happy Holidays!!!

I would like to get the engine/transmission back in this week, I will post pictures....

I got the head back on the engine I used the head stud kit from Mark without any issues. I have attached some pictures of the engine, the exhaust manifold is from my 2ltr head......oops forgot about the water line not being on the 1.8. The intake is off a 1.8ltr so it fits great. At this point some of the parts are just finger tight so I could get an idea how the fit and finish.

Well the motivation is finally kicking in, unlike the rest of the country we have had a very mild winter, the cherry trees are blooming and the grass needs mowing! I have almost completed upgrading all the fuel lines and vent lines, the carburator is installed and the motor is almost ready to be put back in. I am finishing up the plumbing and wire routing in the engine compartment. The heater box has been completely gone thru, new core and valve/pipes, I had to take the fan motor apart and apply some grease, it spins nice. I also connected up the new heater controls out if a 64 Dodge Dart, they will be mounted in the new center console, this required that I reverse the valve by turning the armature 180 degrees to that the push/pull control worked properly. Maybe....next weekend the motor will go in....still need to find an apholstry shop that will do custom work!

New oil dip stick mount.

Trunk plumbing, new filler connected

Trying to get all the hard stuff in before putting the engine in.....pita!

I have got a lot done this week, the engine bay is almost complete...minus engine. I spent a lot of time with the wiring schematic's got everything hooked up with the exception of the rear end, I am waiting for a relay switch module so that the brake and blinkers will work together. I also ran power for the trunk popper, I still need to source the power for the electric e brake, paddle shifters. I will use the pre-existing power for the secret audio.

I installed the new transmission cooling radiator, the one in the OEM radiator was toast so the radiator shop plugged it.

I also included a close shot of the new vent scoop, it is a little taller than shown, the hood is not latched.

I noticed that they did not size right, I inadverantly changed my settings, if you click on them it will take you to photobucket and you can see it properly....

Almost forgot, note the new headlights I got fron Mark!! Very happy with them!!

Got more done today, the radiator is installed, although I will pull it out again when the engine goes in so that I have more room. I needed it in place so I could determine how to route the new transmission coolant lines to the now aux radiator.

Image

I have also installed the new metal windshield container and coil for the new comptronic ignition system. I had to use standoffs to allow the cables for the lights to run behind it, I also wanted to separate them from the ignition coil.

Hi to all!! I have a question, I am putting the wing vent window assemblies back in the doors however I cannot figure out the type of bolt that holds the assembly at the top. There are two bolts that attach the vent frame to the upper door, they screw into backer plates mounted in the door skin. Any help or photos would be appreciated!!

I can take some pics tomorrow of parts car for you on the vents. I think I'll do the hood scoop mod like in my avatar pic when it comes to do my paint. Don't know if Ill keep my small bump hood or not as I always have liked the bigger ones.
