Sticky Carburetor

I will freely admit one of the chores I dislike the most is rebuilding a carburetor.

I fully expected to have to do that to my 75 since it had set up for about 4 years before I got it.
However it didn't leak a bit and I was satisfied with how the gas flowed through it into the engine.

Just one problem, it had a bad habit of sticking on deceleration frequently keeping the rpms north of 4000.

I tried everything I could get my hands on to spray or pour into it.
Gumout, Berryman's, Dollar Store toluene spray, you name it.

Nothing seemed to do it until I tried this stuff called "Deep Creep".
It's put out by Sea Foam and it has been working like a charm.

You can spray the linkage, and into the throat and it frees stuff up like nobody's business.

I wouldn't suggest anything until I really gave it a going over, and I have been using this stuff for about 4 months with no ill effects.

Once in a while the Fiat will balk and start sticking again but a couple of squirts on the linkage and it's good as new. I just keep the can in the map pocket for those times.

I know I'll have to pull the carb apart sooner or later, but it holds 850rpm at idle so well right now, I'm trying to make the inevitable far more later than sooner!!

the throttle cable can also cause its own issues for a sticky pedal.

i had a problem with the '78 that it would not feather start off the line. You had to tromp on it to get it to move, and anytime there after when you came off a coast (like around a corner) you'd again have to tromp on the pedal to get it to take fuel.

never had issue one at any setting between the "off-idle" thru to full fuel.

discovered a wear in the plastic coating on the throttle cable. Could have been a 29 year old cable for all I knew. Anyway.....the cable was nearly rusted shut to the sheath. I ran lots and lots of oil down the cable end to free it up. eventually i will need to replace the cable, but for now, i have no sticky pedal.

Seems like whenever there is discussion of a problem here my car suddenly starts to exhibit some of the symptoms.

Maybe I am just more aware of the signs.

Now I'm getting a little "gronk" noise when I roll slowly forward and step on the brake, sounds like it's coming from the right side, which I've also noticed a slight pull on the brakes that way.

Sounds like more quality time with the parts cleaner and the wrenches coming soon!!

At least this way eventually everything gets replaced
