A Deal in Phoenix

Post by Exit98 »

So I'm crusing Craigslist and up pops an ad for 72 front and back bumpers $100. I'm in NJ, seller is in Phoenix. So I email him, I'm interested. Would he consider shipping them? This is the reply I get back:

[quote][Thanks for your message. I wasn't planning on shipping this stuff or going ebay, but I've had several non-local inquiries today due to the low price. For the non locals, I simply said send me your best offer on the lot. The offer I am considering is $450 for everything, including shipping via Fed Ex ground. If you would like to top the offer, I told the other gentleman I would let him know by Wednesday. I'm not going to pit you guys against each other in a bidding war or anything. I just was looking to make a quick local deal and free up some space, as shipping is always a hassle on the large items./quote]

There was more, but you get the idea. If the seller's on this board so be it. But from $100 to $450? Needless to say I didn't respond.

As of today the ad is still running. If anyone's near Phoenix this might be a decent deal at $100 bucks or so. I hope someone gets them that can put them to good use.

Here's the ad: http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/pts/2164108306.html

I'm in phoenix, and I saw that ad the other day. Would have been a good deal, but I just sold a set of bumpers in the exact same condition for 127 bucks on Ebay. (Even then I felt guilty).

Dang....I was going to pay the bills this morning and see if there was anything left over then drive over to look at them.
Photos looked like they were in decent shape and the $100 OBO included some misc. badges as well. :(

OK this is where it gets kind of weird. So the ad disappears the last week in January and everyone assumes the bumpers sold.

But on February 8th the ad reappears on Craigslist and lists them as "front and rear bumpers from a 1971 Fiat 124 in very good to excellent condition....from an Arizona car, no rust or blemishes. $75 Same phone number as the first ad.

So I call the guy up today and ask if i can come over and see them. I tell him I can be there in about an hour, and he says that's fine because he will be home all afternoon. I'm on the north side of Phoenix and he lives about 35 miles south of me.

I get about 5 mile from this guys house when my daughter calls me and say he called to say he has sold the bumpers
Figuring I'm so close I might as well stop anyway, but no one answered the door!!

I realize it's his right to sell to anyone he chooses, but when he knows I'm coming and still sells it.  He could have said I've had other calls or other people are coming to have a look at them. So if the seller views this board, know that I would have given you more that what you may have sold them for. That is if you actually sold them or even had them to sell in the first place.

If they pop up again in a few more weeks, I'm going to ignore it.

John,
There is a guy in town with a Spider that lists his car. One of the canadian guys called me because he sent him a check for the car and the guy disappeared. Never got the car or the money. wonder if its the same guy and this is how he supplements his income.

Who knows Russ.... Very expensive looking house in Ahwatukee, maybe that's how it's paid for.
Not sure what I would do with them even if I did get them. Already have 2 sets of Abarth blocks and I've not convinced myself to use them either. All I do know is that the tubes are not going back on.

Reminds me of that other guy here in Phoenix that continually lists the SPIDER PART which is the trunk support rod. It's been on there since last summer... Continually relisting it, always saying he'll add more soon.
Shady.
