I would love to know more about the Megaquirt system you used. I am converting to FI - some say carb's are the way to go and certainly for those that understand them, it surely is. I know more about SU carbs than I ever hoped to, but I am more into FI and was one of the reasons I went with a Fiat - knowing they came with FI makes it that much easier. I tried to convert an MGB to FI and it was an epic failure (I at least now know what NOT to do) - my lack of knowledge and the general lack of support from the MG crowd didn't leave me with much help. I looked into Megasquirt but it seemed way beyond my capabilities at the time. With the Fiat - there are examples out there to at least look at - so back to your project - any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Good luck with your troubleshooting - I'm sure you will eventually figure it out. :)

I can smell what you stepped in with the megasquirt questions. I have Vicks in Dallas helping me with the install and I am paying a few dollars for the help on a DIY system. A little humbling to say the least! At this point the board that was sent by megasquirt had an issue that burnt part of the boad. Not installed yet and it is moving along slower than I had hoped. I will share details of the install and problems along the way. However, I still think the Megasquirt system will offer advantages that a carb will only address 95% of. If I can't get this system funtioning better than Dual IDF then I will actually revert to dual carb as a fallback. Hopefully and theoretically that will not be the case. After all, there is a reason they do not make Carb cars anymore given the benefits of a good FI system. The carbs do have a way cool sound!

I ran the megasquirt concept past Jon Logan who is currently building my engine, because I want my car to run quick.
Soon discovered this is not for me. Sticking with dual Webbers, and taking what it gives me.
I would like to drive a megasquirt car,and see how it sounds and runs.

These cars are all about fun. I have friends that have Pontiac Solstices or Honda S2000s and they are so quick and fun, but they have spent over $25, 000 on their cars and my car is every bit of fun to drive AND you don't see many of them on the road AND I only have about $5000 invested with the new engine rebuild. So yea they beat me in a race but they don't beat me in the fun or the oooh and aaah quotient I get at the local car shows! I have a 95 Z28 and it's fun to drive too but If I had to get rid of one it would be the Z28 all day long
1978 Spyder 1800 make that 2L! Finally making real progress!

Then I thought even if I could trade even for the $19,500, I couldn't do it. My 72 is a part of me and may not be worth much to someone else, but it's worth more than just money to me.
When, back in `88, my wife and I bought our `77 the seller - a friend from Italy who ran a service station - told me "Don't ever sell it. The thousands you get will never give you the pleasure this car will. In no time the money will be gone and so will the car."

That was good advice and echoed again in my mind last summer when the thought of selling her (then off the road for several years awaiting work).

We are all into different things. But $ wise few things have given me the hours of pleasure as has my Spider. My Ducatis have. Some guitars perhaps. And my home theater. And the outlay of funds was so small. $3400 originally. Several thousand more over the years for wheels, paint, and maintenance. Then about $2500 last summer to make her mechanically almost like new.

I've spent more than that on a few vacations. They lasted a few weeks at most. The spider for 20+ years (and counting).
