Rear Brakes

Post by Kent124 »

Since Whoa Brakes and EBC Green pads come only for the front, what is everyone using in the rear?

Looking at overhauling or replacing calipers all the way around and replacing rotors and pads for standard 13" rims.

You don't really need much brake on the rear. My stock ones work just fine with the front Whoa brake setup. Some racers use the Feroda racing pads for the front of an RX7 and sand them down to fit.

EBC told me they do not make Green Stuff for the rear. I carry Green Stuff for the front, and EBC made up Yellow Stuff for the front and rear for me. They warn against mixing the colors; if you use Yellow Stuff up front you should use it in the rear also. They suggested standard pads in the rear with Green Stuff up front

I've got to think that using a different clor in the rear is no wose (and maybe significantly better) than usng OEM on the rear. !!!

I've got to think that their warning against mixing colors is about differences in heat-up, initial bite, etc. I mean, lets' remember that in this litigious society, people are ONLY going to specifically recommend doing something that they have a) specifically tested, and b) put their liability exposure in order. The will warn against ANYTHING ELSE.

I've got Greenstuff pads on the rear of my 131. It's got a 132 disc rearend in it, which uses the same size discs and calipers as the 124. The pads were originally in the front of my car, they'd only done about 1000 miles when I put larger brakes on the front. I welded a tab on the back to fit the slot in the piston and filed the friction material down for the narrower caliper. Works a treat!

Hello Michael,

So we do make your rear pads and rotors as well!

I don’t have any stock of your rear pads here in the USA but I can request them from the UK if you would like?

Hi Chris
Just to double-check, i am told that the rears of the Fiat Spider 2000 require a thinner pad than the fronts so this part is thinner and will fit correct?

Hi Michael,

Yes… your fronts measure 17.5mm and your rears at 10mm.

I've dealt with Chris and also directly with EBC in the UK. As recently as the SEMA show in Nov they both told me the Green Stuff was not available for the rear. It must be a really recent decision to offer it if indeed they have it in stock

When I installed the yellowstuff pads from Allison, the things would not fit with the anti-squeal shims, maybe in another 8,000kms (I just tried again and they still wont fit!). The brakes obviously wear well and are excellent after broken-in (I have no booster so i can really tell by fell that their friction is much better than the ferodo's that i had on prior).

2 thumbs up!
