Am about to get into painting and powder coating everything possible under the hood.
The belt cover appears to be some type of plastic with a molded in color of yellow.
It seems to be very hard, and perhaps somewhat fragile?
Someome told my it could be Melanone? Said is was a plastic used during the early years of this car.
I can powder coat anything that can hold up to 400F for 15-18 minutes.
Anyone know what this plastic is made up of,and if it can hold up to this temp?
An Epoxy powder would be a good choice,as it has very strong chemical resistance, including Gasiline.
It does not hold up to UVA well, and is why it is good for under hood components.
Because I was in doubt, the plan was to wet paint it body color, however if it will hold up to cure, it will
be powder coated.

Re: Belt housing cover
I never thought about powdercoating the cover.(it is plastic)
I cleaned mine with brake cleaner, primed with plasticoat sandable primer then plasticoat yellow then plasticoat clear. So far the oils/ dirt wipes off easily.

Narfire, lets see a pic of how it came out.

Mine cleaned up well also, but I prefer it to be body color.narfire wrote:I never thought about powdercoating the cover.(it is plastic)

It's a hard plastic, and may not warp during cure, however I only have one of these covers.
Can't risk melting it.

That engine looks sweeeet. Do you have any pictures of the whole engine. Did you do the work yourself or have it done?

Re: Belt housing cover
The engine is a"normal" looking FI engine. Under the cover there are adjusable cam wheels though and the internals are not really stock. I can tear down the engine and put it back together, adjust valves after Marks cams were installed but had the boring, ballancing, head done, by shops/people that specialize in that kind of thing.
thanks for the complement
