Paint Colour

Post by Firezombie »

As I am getting closer to finishing the body work (well closer meaning maybe the summer!) I had my mind set on painting it a nice bright red. But now, not so sure. If you had the chance to paint your spider...waht colour would you go with? Any suggestions (other than red!)

Cheers!

Bright yellow or orange sure does look nice on the early models. Mine is the original burgandy but if it wasn't against the law at my house to change colors, I'd have gone for the orange or bright blue.

Go with a deep, gloss black.. Black and chrome looks great! Maybe even a chrome roll bar.

Gunmetal grey, like an old 260Z, or the new nissans and bmw's is really nice to show off the flow of the lines, (assuming the aforementioned bodywork is good) and like the old song says, "Black Cars Look Better in the Shade." Too many red "arrest me now" cars out there already. IMHO.

Thats the best thing about paint, you do not have to ultimatly decide till the last minute. Since I go to the FFO, there are alot of RED Fiats on the concours, I want something diff from everyone else. The Burgandy would look good on my 61 (has been re-painten before) was originally dark grey, which is not "racy". There is a baby blue 79 color (origina color silver, now red) that I want for my 79. Black shows all the imperfections which is ok if you do realllly good bodywork, it looks good. Its all in the prep!! Have fun with it! 8)

shouldn't your paint choice be a color that YOU really like rather than a choice by consensus?

Personally, I would never have another black car. They show every speck of dirt and are extremely hot in the summer (even in our northern summers). If I lived in the south, I'd probably go with silver lt. blue or white and not a black top. In the north I'd add dark blue or green or burgundy to the list all with tan tops. I have a dark blue spider and a dark green special.

If you're looking at selling the car in the next few years, go with red. It is the most popular color on the Spider.

To your question: I painted my car a Chrysler silver metal flake. It is a great color and looks really nice in person, but doesn't look like much in photographs. If I had to pick a different color, it would be competition orange like my avatar!

Thanks for the advice guys. I was just curious to see what you guys thought. Would love to go Silver (the body work is not that bad! ) but every 2nd car up here is Silver! If this car came with some tough spots so even though I do pretty good body work, black is out. Blue maybe. Anyway thanks again.

A rich dark navy blue with tan interior and top would look fabulous.

IMHO, the Soider is one of the few cars ever built that looks good in any color

An auto paint store should be able to match your color by using your code. They did it for both of my Fiats.
