Want to replace the standard vinyl boot with a more flat plastic or fiberglass boot.
Something that is solid.
Can't find anything on the net,so I must not be searching correctly.
Is there already an item sold to fit the 124?
Could stow this piece it in the trunk, if the top has to be put up in the rain.
The modern cars have the solid convertible tops that folds in with a body panel.
Can't do that with this top,but want the same look.
Thanks for the help.

Manoa, Yes it is. I prefer to look at a flat version, but it's not available for a 72.
I tried to order it from that Ebay seller, however it said it would not fit my car.

The picture on the website makes the cover look really oversized, like it was made for something else. It definitely wont fit in the trunk. If your pockets are deep enough, you could buy one and take it to a custom fiberglass shop and have it modified to fit.

Re: fiberglass boot cover
If it fits a 2006-2009 Range Rover sport, I'm pretty sure it will fit your 72. Its big and puffy so it can fit over a folded down convertible top. It could be made lower profile, but you would need to remvove the entire top frame. I think it is ment for sunny day driving. It could also be sectioned and hinges installed so it will fold, but probably still would not fit in the trunk, maybe the back seat.
I think a better solution would be to have an upholstry shop make a convertible top boot cover that stretched across the back seat area with metal wire hoops to create the double humps. It could attach using the existing boot hardware and still fold up and fit in the trunk.

Thanks for the feedback.
I was looking at a lot of 124's and parts, and save them in a folder,to find later.
Seems like I saw a car with a low profile, flat solid boot, but it may have been for another car. Can't find it in the saved folder.
It looked clean and tight, and gave the car a finished look, rather than what I have.
May be more trouble than it's worth. This is the first vert I have had that folds down so easily. I'm probably complicating
it.
With the money I'm spending on the performance engine build, it makes me want to have everything else as good as it can be. I am no doubt putting a lot more into this car than I could ever sell it for. But that's alright to some degree, because
I like this little car,and plan to drive it to work several timesa day, when the weather warms up here.
The demand for a very nice 1608 engine car could be high one day,and not a bad investment.
Will ask my local interior guy to look at it and come up with a good quality material, and have it custom made. Can't be that expensive based on what I have seen him do for the money on other restorations.
