Re: Budget 2.0 (2L) build
this is the current combustion chamber work for my 2.0 build, deshrouded and all sharp edges removed, i did give up a few cc's but it will be worth it. still deciding on pistons... and still searching for titanium retainers

Re: Budget 2.0 (2L) build
I didn't realize thet Steve was PM'ing me the same thing he is posting, so here's the reply I just sent to him:
it certainly answers many questions. however; it also takes this into a project that gets in the way of me actually driving the car.
through the course of what you've just described, you've added several months of work (remember, I'm lucky to get an hour/week on this thing) plus several trips to the machine-shop and the accompanyng delays, plus more machine-work, wich can add-up in $$ very quickly.
this is supposed to be a simple budget-build. I'm only boring it in the first place because the previous owner lied to me about the condition of the motor.
There must be a place inbetween doing it "just-right", the way you've described, and "doing it half-ass". isn't there a "good-enough" method?

whats the i/d of the valve seat at its smallest point, on the euro heads with the bigger valves, on intake and exhaust

The Stock Seats can be opened up by 1 mm on the intake and Exhaust while using the stock valves i've done this
it works well for a budget build .

I feel fine doing the 1mm Open cut and dont see an issue with the valve to seat area ! as for the 105
head that sounds wonderful but we dont have those heads over here but i wouldn't mind trying one
to see what all the hype is about

Steve keeps telling is how easy it us to get the Euro=spec heads and pistons. But I'll admit that I've been watching European & Aussie ebays for most of year now (sporatic searches) and have YET to see a 105tc / 100s head, and I've been watching for some stock 2L pistons on the same sites for about 45 days, and same thing: nuthin'
Maybe Steve can steer us to some sites where we can pick this stuff up?

Re: Budget 2.0 (2L) build
well, maybe I'm missing something here. You're giving me advice on building my motor... using parts I cannot get. You've told me and others that we CAN get them, but what I'm asking is WHERE? because I have taken your advice, because you clearly know what you're talking about... but I cannot find those parts available to me, at ANY price! So if you persist in dispensing advice on how to build this motor using parts I can't get... then I'll have to start listening to someone else!fiatfactory wrote:maytag,

And let's not forget that the FIRST WORD in the title of this thread is BUDGET!
