headrest question

I have a 1978 124 spider with headrests and I know they will raise and lower but will they come off? I want to buy some seat covers and need to remove and re-install the headrests. Thanks!

If you remove the back of the seat, you will see a clip that needs to be taken out before the headrest can be removed.

I think it uses a phillips unless you have the newer seats in the car. Then you have to remove the seat cover to get to it. If that's the case. Be careful not to tear the seat cover when raising it. It's like the seat is wider at the bottom. If your seat covers are old. They'll tear. Your better off taking a razor blade to the seams about 6-8" and then resew.

Ok, now I looked and at the bottom there are 3 philips head screws. So looks like they come out and then you slide the seat back down. Thanks, I should look before asking!
