Automatic Log In Feature not functioning

Post by ventura ace »

Evan,
The Automatic Log In feature seems to be kaput. Even though I have checked the box for Automatic Log In, each time I access the FS.com forum, I need to log in again. Not only that, but when I do log in, I always get the following message, then I try again, and it will let me log in:

phpBB : Critical Error

Error updating session key

DEBUG MODE

SQL Error : 1062 Duplicate entry '20' for key 1

INSERT INTO phpbb_sessions_keys(key_id, user_id, last_ip, last_login) VALUES ('c3bbefa9f3f4bbcf60b581f72d2e38e3', 20, '47fd94b6', 1174654216)

Line : 229
File : sessions.php

Please investigate. Thanks!

Clear Cache & Cookies

Post by Site Owner »

I don't think this one's a server issue - you probably have an old cookie from before the upgrade and the new software doesn't like the "old" cookie.
If you're having issues with this, please try clearing all cookies and your memory cache. My guess is that this will fix the problem. IF it doesn't, then if it works for some and not others, we need to find what the differences are and work from there.

I tried deleting all browser history, passwords, cookies, temp internet files, the whole works, and this problem still persists. It is curious that it always rejects the first log on attempt, then allows me to log on when I re-enter exactly the same information. I have Windows XP professional, 2002 with service pack 2.

Do you suppose that it is some of the filtering that has been installed to detect spam? Is the web site software identifying my IP address as a Spam attack at first, then allowing me a go on the second attempt? We did notice that some spam attacks were getting through during the first couple of days that the site opened again (but I haven't seen any spam for the last day, now).

Any body else having this problem? How about you, Mark? Did it get resolved? If anybody knows how I should fix the automatic log-in, I'd sure appreciate some suggestions.

>> Never had this problem before FS.com went off line recently
>> No problem with my Work computer (different IP address, I guess)
>> Same problem exists with my daugter's Compaq computer, and other daughter's Gateway computer (I'm guessing that these have the same IP address as my Home Desk computer, since they are all networked into the same network provider here at the Elrod home)
>> Problem is that I get the error signal described in my first post, when I log in here at home, and check the log-me-on-autimatically box, but when I try a second time, it will let me log in. If I log in without checking the 'automatic' box, then no problem, but the next time I access the site, I have to log in again.
>> Sure seems to me like my IP address is being screened somehow, and blocked from automatic log in.

Mark? any luck with your computer?

if you go into profile and re-enter your password I believe the problem will be resolved.

Ace -
Sorry you're having issues with it - just FYI, I'm not doing any IP blocking at all, so that wouldn't be it. I've been trying to replicate the problem here and can't seem to. Still has me puzzled. Is anyone else having this problem?
If I could find a pattern of some sort that might help.

Evan,
I tried Mark's suggestion of resetting my password in the profile section, and I think that took care of it.
First I tried to just re-enter the password in the profile, but that didn't help.
Then, I re-entered my existing password and entered a new password (used the same one), and confirmed the password (again, the same one). This seems to have taken care of the problem.

Why it was a problem, and why it took care of it, I have no clue -- but, thanks Mark for the tip. How did you come up with that solution, anyways???

the odd thing is I still have the problem, alternately either at work or home. If I reset my password at work, then auto log-in doesn't work at home and vice versa. Reset my password at home and auto log in doesn't function at the work computer. Strange

Same here, Mark. Seems to allow only one computer to have privy to auto log in. Any ideas out there for how to resolve this. (I know, only use one computer -- I shouldn't be poking around here from work anyway!!)

Auto Log-In

Post by Site Owner »

Hey Folks -
After reading the most recent posts here, I think I have it figured out.
Here's what I believe to be the case:
The server sets a "cookie" on your machine (in case you don't know, we're not talking chocolate chip here, it's a unique set of numbers and letters). You can only have one valid cookie for auto-log in.

So . . . the (somewhat) solution to this is to decide which computer is the most important for you to have auto-log in work. Obviously I would think it would be the one you view the forum the most on. For the other computer, well, you'll just have to manually log-in.

This is not a configurable option on my end - short of re-writing the code from scratch, which I can't do.

Anyway, mystery solved I think.

Cheers,

I suppose an option would be to have separate accts at work and home
