Front bushings options?

Post by eddie124 »

Hi all,

I've just started to notice the dreaded inner tyre tread wear that's the signal of the front end bushes approaching their death.

Since I've been getting very short lifespans out of these (I suspect the annual inspections are to blame here as they push-pull the wheels quite a bit with hydraulics), I was wondering if there are any good alternatives that offer a longer life, without spoiling the ride comfort? I use this car on a daily basis (weather permitting - needs a new top), and the downtown area has cobbled streets which I occasionally have to drive through so no hard suspension components please.

Cheers, Eddie

Others will chime in with far more knowledge about this, but as I see it, your shocks and springs will affect the "hardness" of the ride the most, so maybe you could try the harder, polyurethane bushings to see if ithey are too harsh. You are supposed to get better handling and cornering with the harder bushings, but that may also give a harsher feeling to the ride. I don't know if the bumps from cobblestones would feel much harsher than they already do, though.

I've not seen other than the OEM style and the polyurethane ones offered by IAP.
