Mounting Heater Blower under Dash

Post by fiasco »

Here are some pics of what Ive got. The first three are what is currently in my '69. The heater core is there, but just seems to hang in the spot it's in. It hangs down a bit on the driver's side. I can push it up into the housing, but I don't see any way to attach it to anything to make it stay up.

The next three are the blower that I took out of my totaled '76. I can't find any way to mount it in the car. It does not seem to have any attachment points either on the top where it would go up against the heater core, or on the bottom (which makes sense because it needs some space on the bottom for the lower vent to open.

I'm hoping someone can advise me as to how I would mount the blower so that I can have a working heater and defroster.

Is this the control that opens/closes the flow of hot coolant into the heater core to make it heat the air that would blow over it if I had a blower installed? If so, any advice as to how the cable that should be attached to it would actually attach to it?

Thanks,

Steve, there are long metal clips that clasp the blower box to the frame your heater core sits in. The heater core does just kinda hang there until you mate the heater box to it and install those metal clips. did your parts car have the clips?

Yep gotta have those clips. Also there are two slightly different housing it seems. I had a devil of a time getting mine back together last year. What I tried didn't work so i'll be doing that again soon. Not looking forward to it!

Ok - now that you mention it, I think I remember those clips. I'll have to look through my ziploc bags and see what I can find. Hopefully I didn't lose track of those.

Thanks!

Steve, The 69 and maybe 70 models had a thicker heater core compared to the later spiders, You might also need the 69 lower half or that nut on the blower fan will foul on the core and prevent the fan from spinning. That is unless the upper half is deeper and all the lower halves are the same. Try checking the clearance and if the fan will spin before assembling it.
