When you get around to registering it you may want to consider doing it as a collector (?) vehicle. Sorry, I can't remember the exact terminology but I know it's not classic. With proof of insurance from someone like Hagerty you're issued regular plates and don't have the hassle of emission tests. I believe you have to state it's not your daily driver and the car has to be at least 30 years old, so you should be good. It's worth looking into.

Congratulations!!!!!! You have a great little car there and you will love it once you get through all the red tape. I tripped into a very similar situation, a 79 carb'd 2000cc that had been non op for 20 years. Our major problems all related to the time of sitting. Fuel tank debris big time. Cam belt and tensioner. All hoses including brake. Brake calipers. Cooling fan thermostat etc. The 79 is unusual as a bit of a transition model. Bigger motor but pre FI. Has a smog carb, cat, air pump, etc. If you do have to have a Smog inspection the car will have to have all of its original smog stuff. Don't throw anything away yet. Many times previous owners replace carbs, ditch air pumps, cap and plug hoses etc. Once you get her licensed and "bona fide" you can turn her in to a great running little car. It is worth the effort. Our's now runs like a raped ape, is reliable and very fun to take on an outing. Stick with it Buddy.

Salvage titles are not normally an issue. On rebulding the carb. That carb "79" is the most anemic one that was produced. Find yourself an 1800 intake and get a 32/36ADFA if you are interested in a good performance upgrade

Carb is something. It was funny I put it all back together last night but didnt feel comfortable with the throttle body stuff, springs, cams , rollers, etc. So I called Oreillys Auto Parts and took it in to see if they could spot a mistake. THey looked at it like it was something they never saw before ! Still don't feel comfortable with it. I may bring it down to a shop and have them look at it. Otherwise, very happy with the overall shape of this 15 yr sitter.
