Rear Sway Bar
I installed a rear sway bar this past Friday and WOW what a difference. I always thought that this Spider had a lot of body roll and understeer, but after reading about these cars I found out that this is pretty normal. After installing the sway bar the Spider handles like a Go-Kart. There is very little understeer and the car goes just where you point it. I think another trip up Mt Baldy road is in order for next weekend.....

Re: Rear Sway Bar
do you have any details on the install, brand, etc? Did you upgrade your front bar to a 1" as well? I've been thinking about doing this but just haven't made it happen yet. Maybe your experience will be my extra motivation to make it happen.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Rear Sway Bar
I contacted Addco Manufacturing 1-800-621-8916 and asked what sway bars they had to fit a '75 Fiat 124 Spider. They gave me the part number and I ordered it through Summit Racing. The installation instructions were straight forward, I had to drill four 3/8" holes in the frame. The handling is very neutral now and the tires don't squeal unless I drive it really hard. I don't think I will upgrade the front sway bar because I like the handling the way it is now. I really enjoy the twisty roads now!

A front swap bar would create more understeer. At this point i wouldn't do that as it would put you more or less back at square one. generally speaking if you want to get rid of over steer stiffen the front, if you want to get rid of under steer stiffen the rear.

Re: Rear Sway Bar
That's true Matt. I was surprised how much understeer and body roll this car had when I first bought it, I thought it "plowed" like a tractor. The rear sway bar brought just the right balance and there is no need for a stiffer front bar. Like you said with a stiffer front bar I might be back where I started. Right now the car goes where I point it and I haven't experienced any oversteer.
