Wire wheels for fiat

Post by goomba »

Is it possible to put wire wheels on a fiat? MGB style... Would I have to get conversion hubs? How much would those cost?

thanks

If you're going to do it at least get the borrani style of rim. Dayton can make you some but my guess is that they would be about 3times the cost or more than what you payed for your car in the first place.

Has anyone ever seen spoke wire rim covers for 13" factory rims?

My 68 had wire wheel covers. If memory serves (it usually fails) they came off an old Mustang:

Wire wheels

My '79 has Dayton wire wheels, as they came on the car when I bought it. They look great & are well made; thick chrome=no rust, etc. However, they are quite heavy compared to the stock wheels for some handling degredation. They are also, for the same reason, quite diffcult to get balanced properly. I am told they cost $500 each when new, but am not sure this is correct? Dayton still supports then, as I needed a couple of new lug nuts.

I've seen a couple of Mazda MX5's on wires, one only a couple of months ago, so there are suitable wheels about. Good wire wheels are never cheap and old rough ones cost more to fix than buying good ones in the first place.
You need to decide if you want either ; bolt on wheels, true splined hubs for single cap / spinners or splined hub attachments bolted to the fiat hubs.
