bumper shock question?

Post by backyardbill »

The right rear bumper shock is stuck in a partial collapsed position. Can it be extracted back to fully expanded position and reused? I tried hammering the flange but the piston didn't move. :(

My '76 had a partially collapsed bumper shock on the front. This sounds crude but I tied a rope around the shock and bumper and a tree and backed the car up slowly and it pulled it out perfectly.

Ok, I'll give the brute force method a try. Thanks

Ok gentlemen and lady fiatistas, the time finally came. I had to do something about my compresses bumper shock or buy a new one. I contemplated all the suggestions offered, like chaining my bumper to an old oak tree, and poping out the clutch at 4000 prms, etc, etc. But after staring at the problem long enough, a method for expanding the shock came to light.

I securely bolted the bumper shock to my 3.5 ton floor jack and pumped it up. And boing, the shock popped right out in 10 seconds. :)
