Alright, i'll look into a quart of clear, maybe do 2 coats of that too, so far two coats has only used less than a quart, a good set of eyes you can tell the trailer is getting in on the smokey gray look too lol so its not like all that paint was really used only on the car either. But like really whats your guys thoughts on some metal flake additive? maybe mix that in with the clear?
And do I go Black or White pen stripe...? I think the black would be to much, and the white, might just set everything off (in a good or bad way idk)

Lex,
What kind of prep did you do before rolling your first coat? Did you sand off the old paint, or just scuff? Did you have to repair/fill any damage spots? Did you prime before painting?
How are you dealing with the trunk and engine bay?
I'm going to try the roll-on with my car - probably during Thanksgiving week, if the weather permits.

Well I've been doing some thinking, and I wont be able to put anymore coats on until Thursday, unless I squeezed one in tomorrow morning. With that, its costing me way to much driving my truck around to not get it back on the road.
So at the moment, the truck and engine bay wont be completely taken care of, but before putting the third coat i plan on sanding (just scuffing) the bay and trunk trim(top face, and maybe open areas in bay), and roll as much as I can and touch up with the foam brush. As well as treating the door trim. these places will only be getting 2 coats, but they will be really thick and really clean coats. So the first week of summer I will be able to finish properly by vacating the bay and trunk area and then taking the roller to it. I might also wait and put the clear coat on then as well but i will give it a nice polish before getting her on the road for now.
As for prep work, I wrecked the car, so i did body work before hand as best as i could, the places that received bondo were sanded to metal and fixed and then received a primer. As for the rest of the car, I saw no need to take off (personal count) 8 layers of paint and prime and clear, for the thick roll on paint to have something to grab to, so i sanded two layers off, 4 in some places and started painting.
That being said there was a big difference in the places that got the primer and didnt on the first coat, but this second coat really evened everything out (except in my test spot, but that looks to even out on the next coat).
Between coats, i didnt bother to wet sand the hole car, just the two areas that orange pealed (mainly do to excitement/ impatience of getting the first coat on...happens) This second coat from what i can tell from the outside light, wont need any either, as i really took my time with this one. I will wet sand everything before the last two thin thin coats, which im shooting for just 6.
I know this seems like I'm being impatient with everything but, its my favorite time of the year to be driving, and its costing me to much not to be driving, whilst I'm unemployed. Which is the other reason i went the roll-on way, wrecked repair, and painting, overlooking gas for my truck, has put me around $180, which suits me until spring when i have real cash/time to spend on my baby, and if I get a new contract might be looking at getting a sister show version
Hope my ranting helps lol but as i said, i'd take lots of pics and have tones of comments on

I am very interested to see how this turns out. I had someone tell me they painted their car with a roller but I didn't believe them. Looks pretty good so far.

In the days of the Model 'T' they applied lacquer by brush and then buffed it by hand to a high polish. It is possible, but I already have spray gear so I am not going to attempt a roll-on paint job. We will have to see how this turns out when finished. As long as the prep was done the same as a quality sprayed finish I don't see there being any issues with it being rolled on.

Alright so here is the engine bay and trunk for you fiasco, also gas cap.
Did this with a brush, then it hit me, oh i can buy spray paint the same color.... So it doesnt look as good as it could have if i would have just used spray paint to begin with.
This was also just done with a brush. The hole trunk lid didnt get painted but the lips did, its kind of hard to tell.

^The black radiator air dam, will get repainted black in do time as well.^

No problem, I still need to take off the master brake cylinder (replacing it) so when it comes off i'll move up on the drivers side a little more, its should look like I got all of the bay, by the time I put everything back in/together. But it's still ganna be a work in progress, so another day, another picture lol

You could buy a cheap gravity feed sprayer for $60 at Home depot so you don't get roller fuzzies in your paint.

I guess it depends on how much you spend on a rattle can of paint. They sure don't go very far. I think one can took care of both my upper and lower control arms. I would think if you needed to do at least two coats of paint, you'd be spending a pretty good penny.

This method also stops you from some of the headache of doing a spray job, like covering non-paint areas, such a wheels and windows, the paint only goes where you put it. and yeah as Raze said, high density foam cuts down on not only fuzzies, but the roller marks them selves.
