Mounting an 8" subwoofer

Post by lordxenu »

Just an idea I'm rolling around in my head.

I like nice stereo systems. I plan on adding 2 5.25" speakers in the back corners in the pockets where the top hardware folds into like most people do, but I don't want to mount an external box in my back seat for a subwoofer.

The idea I have is pulling the back seat bottom out, and mounting a small 8" subwoofer inside, building the box into the seat so that it's stealthed in. That way I can preserve the 'look' but at the same time get a great sound system set up.

Do you guys think it'd work? I haven't really had time to pull the seat up but I figure someone has either already tried to do this or has done this before and it's worth a shot to figure out if it works before tearing my back seat apart to find out :p

I have also considered this. I think there is space to build a box into the seat and maintain the original look. There are a few brands that offer subwoofers with shallow mounting depth. Please post all progress.

It would sound better and be in some ways easyer to make a box for the trunk cut a 8" hole in metal and fire it thru
the seat . will be stealth and give someone a great massage while sitting in the back .

I mounted an 8" Punch sub in one of my rear seat shelf compartments. Sounds great! Not sure if you would have enough clearance under the back seat though. It was a pretty tight fit under the raised shelf.

It looks as if I'm going to have to pull my seat up and see if I have around 3-4 inches of clearance to mount one. I'll do the low profile ones if I have to, 6.5" or 8" would be great.

I don't have a problem with the trunk, however the trunk is already crowded enough with random miscellaneous tools and things from where I've had to do work on it.

Protip: Don't buy autozone gaskets, they're terrible.
