Top Latches issue

Post by Nancy1340 »

When the top is down the latches stick up no matter how I position them. So when I try to put the boot cover on for a top down kinda day they poke up so much I'm afraid they will ruin the cover. I have been putting folded up wash cloths over them to pad and protect the boot cover. Any suggestions? The previous owner put a new top on the car and I'm not to sure about the quality but don't think that would have any impact on the latches.

Nancy... that is the way the latches are on the car... the boot should have a reinforced area (doubled up material) to prevent breakthough... make sure the 'point' on the latch is covered with the other latch part before putting the boot on.

There is no other option that I'm aware of besides adding towels, etc. I haven't had a break thru on mine or my sons boot yet... anyone had a break thru with theirs?

Thanks. I don't remember having this problem with my other two Spiders.

I keep a soft towel to pad the back window when the top is folded down also. So far the two wash cloths work OK, the cover just doesn't look smooth.

Do you have these straps in place? http://www.international-auto.com/index ... sid=858552
They hold the top down in the well, so that the latches don't rub the boot. Also, if the springs are broken on your latches, they won't lie flat.

Thanks.
Yes, the straps are in place when the top is down before I put the cover on.
Hopefully this weekend it will cool down enough to get it out of the garage, put the top down and take a look at the latches.
