Thank your lucky stars most people have not caught on to them yet so normal people can still afford to buy and fix them. It drives my ex-wife's attorney crazy that my little red Italian sports car is only worth a few grand. It's hard to make me look rich when every book value of our cars is down to peanuts. Doesn't hurt my feelings a bit. If it was worth more I would then have to decide if it was worth it to keep it and since it brings me far more joy than what it's worth it's a keeper. :wink:

@Gunsmith,

This is true. Some of my friends that are more interested in your usual American muscle cars are amazed at how little it costs to own a Fiat, not just the value of the car itself, but generally the parts, fuel, insurance and everything else seem to cost me much less.

I just wish I could get a little better return on my investment. I mean, we're talking about a rare, classic, Italian sportscar that happens to be exempt from emissions checks in my state... While the Spider itself was practically free :D I will be lucky to get what I have spent on parts when I sell it.

Well I do not know of too many hobbies that are "investments" If you don't like what you have "invested" in your Spider don't ever buy a boat.

UNFORTUNATLY i have parted out over 1000 spiders im my lifetime, i can account for 800+ from 1 business and over 200 from my second. so eww sorry but the parts went to keep many more running. that being said i still have 77 spider my driver.(2)79 spiders, 82 spider, 83 pinninfarina. so that makes 5 that are in my control. but i am searching for more, i think the fiat bug has bitten again :twisted: :mrgreen:

A Map

Post by Twister »

If no one else has already started one, here is a map... it's global you just have to zoom out

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&m ... 6529e195ca

I'd suggest that when you place your pin that you include a description of the vehicle/s (pins and other controls are under the edit button that should appear to the left of the map) You may have to create an account (it's free). If you do not want to create an account, PM me with your zip code and car info and I'll set a pin for you. If you are uncomfortable with that and you know someone else who has placed their pin, you might ask them to help you out.

In the upper left corner look for "Import". Hit that and place the pin where you live. Then add your information in the boxes in the same area you saw the Import option. Year of your car in the first box and the discription in the 2nd.

If you mess up you can edit the information.

This is a little bit dated, but for what it's worth, I can tell you that in 2004, there were 526 Spiders registered in Connecticut.

Red (as might be expected), was the most popular color, followed by blue (those two colors accounted for half the cars).

And not to inflame the which-year-is-best wars, but 1979 was the most common year, followed by 1981 and then 1980.

I put my pin on the map. :D A little concerned that anyone can edit the map. Maybe you should change the permissions.

Zippy: Well, it's not a publicly listed map, the only way to get the url is from my post above. I've watched several friends have their lives taken over by their web creations. It was just an idea I had and I don't really care be the sole administrator for this so I left it wide open (not many other options I know of), if someone from this board wants to mess with it, then I guess it's their karma to do so. I also do not want to get this topic filled up with posts about this map, which is why I asked folks to PM or email me their info if they don't want to get their own account (I may have opened a can of worms with that).
