Gear Oil GL-4 SAE 85W90 sold at International Auto Parts and Vicks most auto parts places don't carry the correct

Re: 5speed trans oil
i found this at red line ( http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=46&pcid=7 )
Safe for brass synchros, as it lacks the reactive sulfurs found in most GL-5 oils that cause damage
Recommended for GL-1, GL-3, and GL-4 applications, as well as where most special synchromesh fluids are specified
I might give this stuff a try !

Re: 5speed trans oil
As I posted elsewhere the euro automobile restorer that recently did some major work my `77 back on the road after a 4 year hiatus chose Redline MTL for the transmission. The car has about 118,000 miles and for as long as I have owned it (I believe it had about 75,000 when I bought it in `88), had never to my knowledge had the tranny oil changed, and the synchros were slow and the shifter a little balky. The MTL made a very significant improvement.
