I need a good mechanic
I need a good mechanic
Help. I just got my fiat road ready after about 20 years. Gildo at G&. S in riverdale maryland did a really good job and it was running well. Last weekend I tried to drive from washington dc to NYC and the car started puttng and I had to have it towed. The closest garage gave it a tune up and replaced some cables because he said the points were shot and it wasn't firing correctly. Which I roughy was wired after just having the engine rebuilt After getting the car back it's still not running like before and I'm scared there's another problem and I don't think I can drive it back to dc. I'm stuck in west orange new jersey. Does anyone know of a mechanic in west orange that knows how to work on a 1978 fiat. I feel stranded
Re: I need a good mechanic
OK Roller,
A long time ago I lived in West Orange and there was a foreign car guy that did work on my original fiat and my 240Z too I think. His shop was in a run down residential area in a large garage behind a house.
I know for a fact that there is still a shop there that works on foreign cars. No idea about them, if they'ed work on a Spider, if they are any good, and so forth. But given your situation it could be worth a call. Here is the info:
Central Imported Car Repair
504 Valley Rd.
West Orange NJ 07052
973-736-2797
Good luck and let us know how things work out.

Re: I need a good mechanic
Roller,
This is a long-shot. I looked at a project Spider at a garage in Newark. The guy that owned it was the owner of an auto repair shop. He was native Italian and had done extensive mechanical work on the car. I passed on it, the body and interior was more of a project then what I wanted.
Anyway I don't remember the name of the place or his name. No emails we just talked on the phone.
It was on Bloomfield Ave, south of the Bloomfield border, in Newark. Coming from Bloomfield it would be on the right side, on a corner, and the whole property was protected by a chain link fense and gates. It was probably around Bloomfield Ave. and 13th street, that area anyway. He was opened on a Saturday, that's when I went to see the car.
