Picked up another 76 to swap parts but things changed.

Post by brad131a4 »

Once we got it home and started looking at what was in it my wife said I won't be cutting up my other car. She wants me to fix my original one so my daughter can drive it. I figure I have all the missing pieces to get the new one I got back together and running. Being that the body on the new one is in far better shape. I can fix the rusty drivers side floor and media blast the reast of the body and go from there. The only thing that is happening is that I'm going to put in a vw motor and ce2 wiring to run the motor and the rest of the car. Sorry but I need this thing to be bullet proof and the wiring that is now in the car is not up to par.

Wouldn't it be better to just get her a VW or Toyota? There are so many things that can go wrong with a 34 year old car. I worry about getting stranded myself when I'm out on a long drive.

in reading the original post, I'm really hoping he's talking about the WIPER MOTOR and wiring. :?:

'cuz really, I can't imagine a circumstance where swapping a VW powerplant for the fiat would be a good idea, and result in MORE reliability. ???
Wiring issues, I'll give ya that. But it seems much heasier (to me) to completely rewire the car and stick with the TC motor, if the wiring absolutely has to go.

:?: :?: :?:

I don't have a problem with the fiat motor or the age of the car in general. I've replaced just about everything under the car that goes bad so that won't be a problem.
The reason for the vw motor is that the wiring comes from a mkIII golf or jetta and is modular. I have plenty of access to the ecm and wiring harnesses and motors for little to no cost.
Getting the fiat motor to work with the harness will involve a little more effort than to use the vw motor.
I plan to do this to the car I just got but keep the fiat motor and make it work with the wiring.
Well seeing that my daughter doesn't want to get her drivers license unless she is driving an Audi R8 and I can't afford one of those then the spider is her second choice.
Before anyone starts getting lippy about my daughter being spoiled Ah no she is not. She goes to school for 11hrs a day and rides the bus 30miles to and from school.
To me letting her drive a car that she likes is the least I can do.
I'd love it if she wanted to drive a vw I have one ready to go right now. She is not interested. As far as a Toyota I won't even drive one of those. Nothing against them just not my cup of tea or the daughters or wifes.
My daughter can work on cars as she has helped me since she could crawl and she's a month away from turning 19. I just don't feel like throwing her to the wolves in a fiat if I don't have to.

Brad,

Glad to hear she has some skills. If she has been around Fiats then she probably understands what she's getting into. More power to her. I'd like an R8 too but I will have to wait until my next life. Maybe I'll be smarter next time around.
