Vinyl match

Post by Daveje »

Does anybody know a good match in grain and color for the tan vinyl on the later models ('85)? I've got a lot of samples but
no good matches. The World Upholstery sample I got is a pretty good match on color but not even close on the grain. A sample I got called "Corinthian" is a good grain match but not on the color. I keep hearing "German vinyl" but which one exactly?

Early models too have the problem. When I last replaced my seat 177's covers, back in 1988, I was able to get a perfectly matching set, front and back, for about $80. Then for years afterward I'd see similar sets advertised plus more expensive ones with that "German Vinyl."

No longer. Even IAP can't match the original color (not even close!) according to the samples they sent me. Nor could a custom car reupholstery company.

Kind of a bummer.

My old set is still pretty good, but one seam opened in a way that it cannot be resown. I'm hoping I can match the color with a heat-cured vinyl repair kit.
