Coloring fog light glass

Post by boogiedude »

Has anyone tried painting the glass on a set of glass fog lights? I have a set of hella fog lights and I'm thinking of trying to get the old school yellow rally light look. The only way I can think of is to go to a hobby shop and get glass paint.

Has anyone ever tried this?

It would probably work but I bet it wont look right. I'd try a set of amber bulbs with the clear lenses. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/H3-Yello ... ccessories

Krylon makes a stained glass paint that might work. Here's a guy that did it on a Ford Focus. Looks like it came out looking pretty good.

Not trying to be the party pooper here but I don’t think it will work with the Hellas. The focus lights are plastic and were sanded to give the paint something to grab on to. I believe your Hellas are glass and this will be much more difficult to have the paint stick to. It may work for a while but I bet it flakes off. Go with the yellow bulbs or these. Which is what I am going to do. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VW-BUG-B ... mainQ5f100

Rook, I think it will work okay. I've found several forums for Subaru wrx's that have used krylon glass stain to color the glass, and it appears to work well regardless of surface texture. The subarus in question use glass dome lights exactly as we do, and exactly like the fogs.

And the yellow bulb won't give the look I'm going for. I'm trying for a yellow lens, not just yellow light. With the bulb you posted I will only get yellow light and not the asthetics that I'm really after
