How rare/ info on aluminum timing cover

Post by TulsaSpider »

Hi guys.. This was in my parts car-extra parts collection. So I have not seen one before. I always see the yellow covers. How rare was this? What did it come on originally and will it fin an 1800 and/or 2000 engine? Anybody seen these stickers reproduced?

Is the 1800 the only one that had a smog pump? I believe they are specific to each engine size due to increases in block height. It would be worth more it it didn't have the provision for the smog pump, (who wants one of those)?

there was a smog pump on the 2000s, too, at least the carbed ones...

That one is specific to the early smog pump cars that drove the pump off the exhaust cam wheel. The negative to this approach was that when the smog pump siezed it caused the exhaust cam to stop which brought the rest of the reciprocating parts to an ignoble halt.

The later cars used a v belt and as I recall are why the alternator moved to the opposite side.

that cover fits the 75-76 1800, not rare and not very desirable

I had one on my '74. In fact, it's the motor I'm using in my '75 body.
I've had to tear off and plug up all smog and EGR equipment, replace the cam covers, the exhaust camshaft gear, and buy that little timing mark pointer thing that goes on top of the upper water jacket.
But yeah, one of those aluminum timing belt covers with the smog extension was on my '74.

Thanks for the info. I thought it would look much better than the yellow cover if I got it polished. Now that I take a second good look at it it's stretched out longer than normal there on the left side isn't it?

A bit extreme, but you could cut the upper corner off a 1438 cover and weld it onto that one, then install it on ur 1800. it would look good. Lots of work.

I'm sure Brady will eventually fab up an inexpensive aluminum cover with no smog extension. :P

that particular cover came from a 75-77 fiat 131 station wagon! 1756 with a cam driven smog pump. the sticker gives away the vehicle fitment. cassino is assembly plant where they were put together
