Polishing intake manifold

I don't have access to a sandblaster, what is the best way to clean and shine valve covers, intake manifold etc.?

I send mine off to a polisher.

.....but that was only after I spent countless hours with sandpaper, polishes and buffer wheels.

I guess that is what I was afraid of. How about if I just do the valve covers with a wire wheel and buff with compound?

I did mine by myself. I used my compressor and some air tools to get it ready for the buffing wheel I got at harbor freight. I even bought the air tool and pads to sand it there. Cost about $80 for everything. Here's how mine turned out.

Bjones, that polishing job is amazing, what kind of air tools did you use?

Also any advice on where to find plugs for the manifold (I removed EGR) and did you also remove the charlcoal cannister (and if so, any advice on where to block the lined, back at the tank?).

Did you or are you going to clear coat it? The aluminum will oxidize and turn dull again unless some type of protectant is applied. Looks Great!!

Hi guys,
I did clear coat the valve covers and the Tee. They came out good. Once I clear coated the air intake. It looked crap. So I stripped it and repolished it. I guess I'll have to just keep polishing it.
Napa is a great place to get the plugs. If they don't have them, they can get them for you pretty quick and their knowledgeable about what you'll need. I can't remember which one goes to the canister. If I plugged it. I'll fix it later. Still trying to get the car off the rotisserie. Too busy making a steel see saw for the kids now..

Here is what I used. I got everything at Harbor Freight. The sanding disc's are fine and they take it down fast. The grinding disc's are good to smooth out the marks from the sanding disc's. Just be gentle with the pressure. When you do small areas. Be careful because it is really easy to make scratch marks. Especially on the valve covers. I bought some valve covers on ebay and practiced with them. Then resold them. I used the red, black, and white polishing compounds.

I made it. I got the stock piece from Manoa Matt. He had it as an extra. I shaped it and cut out the center. I can't think of what the material was called.
