Window tint or not?

Keeping it sharp - paint, wax, detailing, etc.

Window tint or not?

Post by NebraskaSpider »

I was considering tinting my windows and wondered if anyone else has already done the same. I haven't seen many spiders with window tint (because their convertibles I know, I know) but would still like to see any pictures anyone has and also opinions on how it looks on spiders. I am personally not looking for a very dark tint but am not sure what percent I should try. I was also wondering if it were possible to tint the rear window as it would be folded and I have no idea if tint is that malleable. I would be tinting myself and not hiring someone.

I am most likely going to tint my side windows soon and will post pictures. I have a darker colored theme going with my car (hyper black rotas, black top) and I think a slight tinting would look good when I have it parked with the top up. Also I was thinking it would be harder for passers by to eyeball what I have in my car, especially at night.

Here it is illegal to have the front and driver side window tinted. This has not stopped the criminal element and others from doing it,but there is now a crackdown on the tinted drivers window in Vancouver.
Perhaps check to see if there are any rules about this, I'd always thought it would be a bummer to invest time and money and then be told.. nope- change it.

Local laws in nebraska are pretty relaxed. Tint is allowed as long as it is not limo tint. Im sure too that if someone wants something out of my car, they are going to take it. I never lock my doors, it beats a torn top.

Got one side done. It's 35% tint so it's not going to block much light but as far as looks go, I think it turned out nice. Now for the other side.

Looks good.
That would'nt be an issue anywhere I would think. I'd believe the real dark tint where the cops can't see what is going on in the drivers seat is an issue though.
Is that a film/sheet of some sort you apply?

Thanks. Ya, it a plastic film that comes in a roll I got at the local auto parts store for 20 bucks. It has a sticky side that you peel away from another piece of plastic. Tinting your windows yourself is actually very easy if you spray enough soapy water on the window before you lay on the film. Its easy to move around that way.
I went to find out how much it would have cost me to have someone do it professionally and it would have been 130 bucks!! So if anyone else is interested in tinting, I would suggest doing it yourself. I can put up a "how to" if anyone is interested.
