Steering Wheel Vinyl Restoration

Post by sjmst »

I searched but could not find. Anyone ever dye their faded steering wheel (1979 and later 3 spoke black vinyl)?
I am thinking SEM black vinyl dye/ paint.
Any other ideas?
Thanks!

Try using a good quality boot polish.... YES!! Boot polish. I have been using this trick for years on all my restorations. My preference is the KIWI brand. I got the idea when I was in the forces and had to use a hot spoon on black boot polish to get that glass type shine. So I just tried it one day on a Triumph and it worked great. I apply it with a rag really heavy and several coats. Then let it sit for a few hours and buff with a rag. A couple of days later polish it again. Never had any issues with it coming off in my hands. My latest restoration will be getting it next week.

Wow, I would have thought it would come off on my hands but if it worked for you I may try it.
Thanks.
