Time to replace the cracked dash
I yanked it out today. Not pretty underneath, just dirty, with a light surface rust in a few spots. Gonna have to strip down to nothing and clean. Then put on a coat of black paint with some rust inhibitor in it.
Need to swap some some parts from the ol cracked dash to the new one. Side by side comparison.
Might as well install the nos lower console thats been in a box under the bed for a few years. As the one in the car has some wear, though not to bad.
While Im at it Im gonna install a heater core back in, thats also been out a few years. Started leaking and got tossed. It does get a lil cold at times with no top or heater.

Re: Time to replace the cracked dash
Keep us updated as I'm gonna eventually do the same. I think I'll replace my heater fan when I have the dash out as it would be much easier.

Rey I guess you don't have anything left of the 72 eh? trade a heater fan(if my spare works) for front hood hinges?

Rey, it looks nice. Is that one of those "Just Dashes" models?

Re: Time to replace the cracked dash
Narfire, the parts car is a 70. And I think I might have a fan stashed some where. I think I have spare hinges too. Ill look and get back to you on them. I think they are still on the spare flat green hood.
Beachboy, its not a just dash piece,, wish it was. Its still pretty nice, but not an exact copy. Found that out when we made new wood for it. Wood was too small. Opening is a 1/2 inch wider.

Re: Time to replace the cracked dash
Rey, I found out there was a slight difference in size between the 70 models and the later ones as far as wood is concerned. When I made Alvon's dash, he had to trim to fit because I used an old 72 dash kit as a template.

Re: Time to replace the cracked dash
Rey,
Looks like you got one of the reproductions from Mr. Fiat? That is who I got mine from. I made a new template for the wood as the size was a bit off on mine too. The biggest issue I had with the reproduction dash was the vent holes. They were WAY too small - solved that with the Dremel though. Overall I am happy with the quality - especially considering the price.

Re: Time to replace the cracked dash
Kmac, your right. You couldnt beat the price on this dash, It was free along with a truckload of parts from a guy on X-web. Denise, thats good info to have. We were having some fitment issues with the other wood. Do you know what year the dash size changed?
