How to get rid of the bodies?

Post by fiasco »

So I'm about done stripping parts off the Fiasco (see my other post in the 'Off Topic' forum http://www.fiatspider.com/f08/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=9509). Now I've got two stripped bodies in my driveway (oh, I can see the smart remarks coming already). My question is, what can I do with them?

Specifically, does anyone know of a service/business in the Los Angeles area that will come and get scrap cars?

I know there are plenty who will come get a complete car, even if it is not running, but these are far from complete. One is literally just the shell. The other is essentially just the shell with some carpet scraps and loose wires. I haven't been able to find a scrap company that want's that kind of material.
  • Ideally, I'd like to find a company that will come get them and haul them away for scrap. I'd love to sell the scrap, but I have low expectations in that regard, and would be quite happy to get them hauled away without having to pay anything.
  • Less ideal, but still doable is some company that will pay me enough for the scrap metal that it will cover the cost of me renting a truck/trailer to get them from my house to wherever they are.
  • Much less than ideal, and possibly not doable (given our finances at this point) would be a company that will haul them off, but will charge me for the privilege.
  • Really crappy, but cynically expected would be that there is really no way to get rid of these piles of rusting trash, and I'll be stuck with them in my driveway until I can sneak off in the night, abandoning the cars, house and possibly (hopefully) the family dog, who I love (hate) with all my heart.
Anyway - bring on the thoughts, ideas and smart remarks about stripped bodies in my driveway.

Don't know LA but in my area there are scrappers cruising through the neighborhood every trash night looking for old appliances, lawn tractors, mowers, shelving, etc to take to the scrap yard for a few dollars. I'd stop one of these guys and ask if they can scrap half a car. You'll have to get out your sawzall and cut them up.

In fact, if worse comes to worse, without stealing away in the night, you could cut these up small enough to put the parts out in the trash week after week. Voila! One day its all gone. I've done similar.

A & K Transport-323-328-8876, "we will pay you for your junk car, tow for free"
If you don't have titles for the cars, they need to be cut into qtrs to dispose of, otherwise complete cars can be scrapped. If you rent a trailer, even stacking the two cars won't get you enough to cover the costs when you scrap them.
I've got another contact that will pick them up, but his business card is at work. I'll post it later when I go into the shop

If none of the more conventional options above work out for you, every week sprinkle with rock salt and hose 'em down. Imagine how quickly Fiats would rust away with a bit of encouragement!

 Best idea yet!

Mark - Thanks for the A&K number, and in advance for the other one. I've got title for one of the cars, but not the other.

bajacalal - PM coming your way.

2ndwind - If it comes to it, I could probably do that. Our trash service pretty much takes anything we put out, and I do have a reciprocating saw in the garage...

Thanks all!

call Earl, 909-629-8106, the car without a title will have to be cut up. Earl can do that for you and haul the scrap to a recycling yard. He offers free pickup for the scrap value.
Or, get a pack of saw blades and a case of beer and invite the So Cal locals over for a cutting party

The title threw me off. I was getting ready to suggest a shovel, two bags of quick lime and a remote location

It's said there are quite a few Italian bodies resting in peace here in the pine barrens of NJ.

Shoot, my kids collect scrap metal and load it on the trailer for extra money. They've been looking hard at all my old Fiats.

Dont leave a body on the side of the road, damn highway clean crews seem to come by 2 days later.

Dont bury the body in a shallow grave, dogs or other critters always dig them up.

The DIY cremation in your home stove does not work either, stoves does not get anywhere near 1800 degrees, plus the smell

The acid and the bath tub works but the larger clumps take forever to go down the drain. plus again the smell

Throwing the body overboard is a good one but make sure it is very deep water and you tie your knots good and use extra bricks, weights and chains. This is not the time to be cheap.

The spare freezer in a storage unit is a good one but you have to pay each month on it, plus if they ahve to come in and do repairs it really hard to explain why you have 4 locked freezers and nothing else in there. (deer meat is a good answer).

Then there is always the wood chipper method buy your own dont rent one. You will never get the cleaning deposite back.

Oh wait your talking about car bodies. uhh Never mind have nice day.

That's who I told him to call, lol. Earl is a good guy. I was just reluctant to post what I think is his home phone number on the internet but I suppose he wants phone calls = more business.

make a flower bed out if it, as fast as they rust you probably won't have to wait long for it to feed the flowers :X
