Use Of Gas w/ Ethanol

Post by Spidey23 »

Is it okay to use gas w/ 10-15% ethanol in 78 Spider w/ carburetor? I was told to use Premium gas w/ no ethanol, but even the local Citgos' just went w/10% ethanol! Thanks. Ken

Ken,
from what I have read, the ethanol does nothing good for carbs or older injected cars.I am lucky to live in a area with so much motorcycling, that 2 stations carry non -ethanol gas.I dont know how long that will last ,though.I dont see where we have much choice, but to use the stuff.

Ethanol is very corrosive to rubber parts not designed for ethanol use. My non-ethanol compatible Dodge states that I can use up to 10% ethanol without problem. Unfortunately, ethanol fuels tends to cause worse gas mileage.

Do some research on this topic and you will probably get as irritated as I did/am that we are slowly being forced into buying the ethanol blends. If at all possible, try to find a station that carries straight gas, especially if your Fiat sits for any period of time.

Here are a few of MANY easily found articles that have convinced me to avoid, if at all possible, putting ethanol blends in my Spider (once I have her restoration complete and she is back on the road). I am also planning on using one of the additives to lesson the negative impact if I am unable to find straight gas.
