Cracks in door arm rests
Cracks in door arm rests
My arm door arm rests have a number of cracks in them. Any ideas on how to patch the cracks and refurbish them? Also does anyone have some ideas on refurbishing the center consol. The previous owner put a cap overlay on top of it. I just removed it and it needs some work. Thanks

Re: Cracks in door arm rests
Are the armrests black? I'm sure there are people here that have some they'd sell you cheap instead of you trying to repair them. I probably have a few sets hidden in various boxes. Email me if interested.

Re: Cracks in door arm rests
Does anyone where to get new arm rests in tan? I had my car re-painted and new interior door panels constructed; now would like to replace the arm rests but can't find them in catalogs anymore. Any help is much appreciated.
Re: Cracks in door arm rests
Dye them, most if not all vinyl interiors come in a neutral color and then dyied the color wanted.
Most good quality auto paint stores should be able to provide you with what you need. The key is to get them CLEAN and free of sillicone.

Just take them to an upholstery shop. I had mine redone in leather at the same time I had the seats and headrest redone in the same material.

I thought I saw some beautiful wood armrests on a car on here recently. What a look!
Can you post a pic or 2 of your armrests? It may be easy enough to fill them, and to emboss a bit of vinyl texture into the filler, then re-color them.

Re: Cracks in door arm rests
I plan to redo my arm rests in Sapele over the winter, stained walnut, then multiple coats of custom varnish (I use 25% linseed oil, 25% turpentine, 50% oil modified poly) wiped on. Takes awhile to dry, but it gives a really deep finish. Will dry hard, and will buff well. Will post pics when this is completed.
